Most of us don’t give a second thought on which side we lie on when we sleep: sometimes, we may lie on the left side and wake up on the right side.

Some people who were pregnant before might have been given this advice: lie on your left side. Apparently, some of them thought that it was due to the pregnancy issue.

Well, it’s not just a pregnancy thingy. It’s, in fact, something that has been practiced for thousands of years. While there hasn’t been any study to prove this, it is logical and definitely beneficial if you think about it.

One of the key reasons why it’s helpful is due to the orientation of our organs in our body, in particular our digestive system and our heart.

As we lie on our left, it allows us to digest the food inside us more effectively as the food waste (shit, that is) can be moved easier with the help of gravity.

The second reason is due to the location of our heart: not wanting to make this a science lesson, it basically suggests that as the heart is on the left and something on the right side of our spine needs to flow back to the heart, gravity would have made this job easier.

Or maybe just watch this YouTube video by a doctor, who explains everything much clearer.

Now, we can’t decide how we would wake up (for all you know, you’ve always waken up on the floor face down), at least we know how we should fall asleep.
