It’s official: You can now make calls with WhatsApp. Here’re the details.

Recently, if you’ve been using WhatsApp regularly, you’ll realize a telephone logo at the top of your conversation. You might have dismissed it as a mere logo, but you’ve no idea how Line, Viber and Skype have wetted their pants after seeing this.

Lest you’ve not seen that logo, you would have to update your WhatsApp to the latest version. If your phone is set to auto-update, the feature should already be active.

Yes, it’s official: WhatsApp call function is now available.

How it works is simple: you merely go to WhatsApp, find the contact you want to call and tap on the phone logo. It’s pretty similar to how voice calls or Internet calls work.

With so many Internet call platforms available, why this should be a breaking news? Simple: just look around you. Most, if not all, of them would have WhatsApp, whereas only some of them would have Line, Viber or Skype.

That means calling someone with WhatsApp could be the next norm for a voice call due to WhatsApp’s market share of their messaging app.

But of course, there’s another reason why some people would rejoice or cry.

Tonight, try calling your girlfriend or boyfriend with WhatsApp instead. They’ll have no more reason to say that they didn’t see your missed call after two hours, because their WhatsApp status states that they’re last seen two minutes ago.
