If you still think Siri is amazing, then you need to up your game, because Siri is just so yesterday.

Meet Nadine, the receptionist from NTU who can interact with you, and is anything but human: she’s a robot made to resemble human.

But Nadine isn’t the typical robot (maybe we should use the term android instead?) that you see in documentaries: she looks and speaks like a human.

Developed by Professor Nadia Thalmann in NTU, it is capable of doing simple receptionist tasks and having a conversation with you. Through the process, it will learn new things and would then have a better conversation with you.

Just take a look at Prof Thalmann having a quick conversation with Nadine.

Now you know why it just looks and sounds creepy. It’s because she’s just too real, yet we all know she’s not.

Nadine is created as a social companion, but she could also “address the shrinking workforce.”

Imagine going into an office and be met with a Nadine, who would then help you call the person you’re meeting. That would not be a fantasy, but a reality real soon.

One interesting aspect of robots is that we’ve always thought the “brain” would be in its head—but it doesn’t work that way.

Nowadays, robotic technology has a “brain”, but the core of its “thinking” and “memory” is from, say, something like this.

Yeah, interestingly enough, with cloud technology, all a robot needs is simply 4G (or even 5G) connection, and it’ll have the brain power of…Google.

I don’t know about you, but I feel that The Matrix might be based on a true story.
