Reader: So, where can I get the best hor fun in Singapore?

Well, let me tell you more about our beloved dish first.

Hor fun is one of the most well-loved dishes meals in Singapore and it is served up by most zi char stalls. However, many of the zi char stalls nowadays have veered away from the traditional way of cooking hor fun – plenty of wok hei and using opeh leaves. We have decided to search the island for best hor fun just for you.

Fei Siong Seafood Opeh Leaf Hor Fun

Fei Siong is a relatively new zi char stall that was branched out from Fei Siong’s fish ball noodles business. It serves wok hei hor fun on an open opeh mat which is different from the normal leaf. The portion is lesser than normal but the ingredientsprawns, clams, sea cucumber and scallopsare definitely generous. The gravy is wonderful and tastes like the “seafood tofu in a claypot”.

Ah Wok Restaurant

Ah Wok is a mini restaurant in the food court of B4 in ION Orchard. It sells mainly zi char style food and one of its signature dishes are the Opeh Leaf Hor Fun. The wok hei flavour in this hor fun is full-bodied and good. The gravy is good to have but some of us may find it to be a little drier than others. The weakness of this hor fun, however, is the lack of ingredients. There are only 2 pieces of prawns, sliced fish, some squid pieces and some mushroom. This is definitely not the kind of opeh leaf hor fun that we would expect. However, the wok hei flavour can more than made up for it.

Chu Yi Kitchen

Chu Yi Kitchen is a new player in the zi char business. The opeh hor fun here is value for money as one plate of hor fun can easily feed 2-3 persons. The wok hei here is well balanced and does not overcook the hor fun. Even though the hor fun here does not have the premium seafood such as sea cucumbers, it has great tasting prawns and plenty of vegetables. The gravy is less of an oomph, but good enough when paired with the hor fun.
