10 Easy-to-cook Meals at Home with Just Eggs So Simple, A Child Could Do It as Well

Eggs really are pretty awesome. So much nutrients in such a neat little orb, and mother nature was nice enough to pack it properly in an easy-to-transport and easy-to-open package. The awesome thing is, it’s super easy to cook as well. And I’m not just talking about hard-boiled/soft-boiled eggs that most of you are familiar with.

We’ve got 10 simple recipes here to introduce you to the wonderful world of eggs. Simply egg-cellent!

1. Fried Eggs

You might be more familiar with a variant of this: the sunny-side-up. However, there is so much more about frying eggs than that.

Starting with normal fried eggs,

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Butter/oil
  • Salt, pepper/soy sauce to taste

Steps:

  • Melt butter or use vegetable oil on a pan, on medium to high heat.
  • Crack the egg on the pan, and drop heat to low.
  • Season with salt and pepper, or soy sauce to taste.

(Now’s the fanciful part)

  • For sunny-side-ups, just wait till the desired doneness and serve.
  • For over-easy/over-hard, flip the egg and cook till desired doneness.
  • For basted eggs, use more butter (butter is probably better here than oil), and baste the egg as the edges cook.

How’s that for some sick fried eggs? Fried eggs are perfect for most dishes, ranging from a sandwich, to fried rice, to your leftovers. Just put a fried egg and it’s instantly legit! You could also eat a few by themselves, no problem.

2. Egg Mayo Sandwich

No need to buy overpriced egg mayo sandwiches from outside when you can make your own at home! The recipe is really very simple.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 tbsp. Mayonnaise, or to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices of Toast

Steps:

  • Hard-boil the eggs. I shouldn’t need to explain how.
  • Dice and mash the eggs into small bits.
  • Add the mayonnaise, pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix ingredients till even.
  • Serve on toast!

Egg mayo is actually super simple, and you could mix it up by adding other ingredients to your sandwich!


3. Scrambled Eggs

Yet another well-loved classic egg recipe, and also super open to interpretation too. You can’t go wrong with scrambled eggs!

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Milk (optional)
  • Butter/oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Literally anything else you want in your eggs, like cheese

Steps:

  • Beat the eggs, adding up to 1 tbsp. of milk for every egg used, season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat pan with butter or oil, at medium heat.
  • Add in the beat eggs as the butter begins to bubble.

(add in other stuff as you see fit. Cheese goes here!)

  • Stir lightly so the egg spreads to the entire pan, then push the sides into the middle with a spatula, so bits start to stick out. Most of the egg should still be liquid now.
  • Push, fold and lift until about ¾ of the egg is solid, then remove pan from the heat.
  • Continue the motions until all the egg is done from the heat of the pan.
  • The scrambled eggs should be a mass of soft, creamy egg.
  • Serve!

4. Omelette

You might be a little confused here. I know what I described earlier sounds very similar to an egg omelette, but the final product is quite different. Scrambled eggs come in a pile, and omelettes look sorta like thin, folded pancakes.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Butter/oil
  • Water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Any filling you want, like cheese, bacon, ham, anything!

  • Beat the eggs, adding a little bit of water. Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat pan at high, add butter/oil.
  • Add egg when the butter starts to bubble.
  • Spread the egg to the edges of the pan.
  • Add in any filling.
  • Fold the omelette once most of the egg solidifies.
  • Fold again, and serve!

5. Egg Salad

This simple recipe is super versatile, with many variations depending on the ingredients you like. In fact, it’s actually just a more hardcore version of egg mayo.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Mayonnaise
  • Salt and pepper
  • Literally anything else you want

Steps:

  • Hard-boil the eggs, and dice to chunks. More mashing is optional.
  • Add in mayonnaise, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add in any other ingredients, like bacon, or celery, or onions.
  • Seasoning like mustard powder, chilli powder, garlic powder, basil etc.
  • Mix and serve!

If you put this between pieces of toast, it becomes a sandwich. You could also just eat it as is as a salad!


6. Deviled Eggs

This is actually a simple appetizer-type dish popular in USA. Honestly it sounds kind of evil, but the taste most assuredly isn’t.

Ingredients:

  • 3 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 tbsp. mayonnaise
  • Salt, pepper, paprika (chilli powder) to taste
  • ½ tsp. mustard sauce
  • ½ tsp. white vinegar
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • ½ tbsp. chopped onions
  • ½ tbsp. chopped celery

Steps:

  • Half the eggs, dig out the yolk.
  • Mash the yolk, and mix with all the ingredients.
  • Fill the half-eggs with the mix.
  • Refrigerate (optional) and serve!

7. Poached Eggs

Poached eggs have a reputation for being ridiculously difficult to get right. The perfect round and solid egg white around the silky liquid yolk is a wonderful way to eat an egg, however. But there is a simpler way to get the desired results.

Ingredients:

  • Egg, as fresh as possible
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Bring water to slightly below a simmer, so the water is moving a little but not yet bubbling.
  • Crack an egg into a fine wire-mesh sieve, and swirl it around so the looser egg whites are removed.
  • Gently slide the egg into the pot, and use a spoon to push the white closer to the yolk around the egg.
  • After about 4 mins, remove the egg, and season to taste.
  • Serve!

8. Egg Nests

You might have seen this around, something like cutting a hole in a piece of toast and putting an egg in for a dish that looks somewhat like an egg sandwich. However, what I’m about to show you is slightly different, without even a need for bread.

Ingredients:

  • Egg
  • Salt (a pinch per egg)
  • Grated cheese (gruyere, or parmesan, ¼ cup per 2 eggs)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450°F/230°C.
  • Separate egg yolks from the whites.
  • Beat the whites with the salt, until it stiffens (electric egg beater helps here).
  • Gently fold in the grated cheese, without deflating the egg white.
  • Make a nest shape with the egg whites on the oven pan, and put in oven for 3 mins.
  • Add egg yolks to middle, and put the whole thing into the oven for 3 more mins.
  • Serve!

9. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese cups

These are simple to make and look quite cute as well, and has similar flexibility with many of the previous recipes.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Bacon/ham
  • Grated cheese
  • Sliced bread
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Line a muffin tray with the bread. Cut the bread to make this easier.
  • Beat the eggs, then pour it into the bread cups.
  • Sprinkle bacon/ham and the cheese in.
  • Season to taste.
  • Bake at 450°F/230°C until cooked, and serve!

You could also not beat the eggs and put 1 egg in each cup, so you still get the egg look, and a different taste!

10. Breakfast Burritos

These can actually be full meals, and you don’t actually need real tortillas! The secret is, of course, using eggs.

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • However much bacon/ham you want
  • Grated cheese
  • Anything else you want in a burrito

Steps:

  • Whisk the eggs and milk together, seasoning with the salt and pepper.
  • Melt butter in a pan, add egg mixture and tilt back and forth till bottom of pan is coated.
  • Cook until it looks like an egg tortilla, flipping as necessary.
  • Transfer to plate, and sprinkle the rest of the ingredients and serve!

Now that you’ve seen all 10 of the simple recipes, there is no excuse for not cooking anymore. You can’t even say you can’t cook, because some of these are so simple a child could do them.
