Ah, the king of fruits. Never has there been such a love-hate relationship between Singaporeans and fruits, with people on extreme ends of the spectrum; you either love them or hate them. Fortunately, most of us are crazy over durians and some of us have taken full advantage, coming out with rich, creamy durian delights that every durian devotee must not miss.

Durian Strudel
While most Singaporeans remember Ritz Apple Strudel for its, well, apple strudel, they serve up a killer durian strudel made fresh every day. It is pretty hard to resist rich, creamy durian wrapped in a puff pastry loaf for that killer combination of texture, flavour and taste.

Durian Layer Cake
Four Seasons is a name that probably rings a bell for most Singaporeans nowadays, especially when many of their outlets make durian pancakes fresh on the spot and allow that disgustingly enticing aroma to waft throughout the mall or street. While you might be familiar with those, give their durian layer cakes a shot and enjoy the contrast of rich durian against a light, fluffy, spongy cake.

Mao Shan Wang Ice Cream
If you haven’t heard of Udders, you’ve got to try it right now. An ice cream parlour opened by a Singaporean, they have now expanded to quite a few stores and have a killer collection of unique ice cream flavours, one of the most popular being the Mao Shan Wang ice cream. The boss swears by quality and quantity, and their durian ice cream is one of the creamiest and most flavourful.

Durian Tau Huay
When you combine durian with one of Singapore’s favourite breakfast and snack foods, you know you’ve got a winner. As a perfect vehicle to carry different flavours, there are now various flavours of soya beancurd like chocolate and pandan, and you can now add durian into the mix. Give the one at 51 Soya Bean at Golden Mile Food Centre a shot.

Durian Shaved Ice
If you’re a dessert connoisseur, you might have heard of Dessert First at Liang Seah Street. You know what they’re all about simply by their name, but you have got to know that they serve up a gorgeous durian shaved ice that is way ahead of any durian ice kacang you’ve ever had. With thinly shaved durian flavoured ice topped with durian ice cream and durian sauce, get ready for a durian overload.

Durian Waffles
As if the shaved ice wasn’t enough, Dessert First also serves up their signature durian waffles, a thick, gooey serving of durian spread on a piping hot waffle with a large scoop of durian ice cream on top. Now that’s how you eat waffles in Singapore.

Durian Sago
Next on the Liang Seah Street list is Ah Chew Desserts, which is arguably a bit more of a household name because of its longer history. While most of us would be used to a mango or honeydew sago, get a load of their durian sago which comes with a large dollop of pureed durian together with a thick, creamy dessert soup and chewy sago.

Durian Macarons
While the macaron craze might be heading towards a decline, durian macarons might just be the remedy to correct that trend. Sunlife Pastries at Causeway Point is selling chewy, sweet macarons with a creamy, rich durian filling. Another example of how Singapore takes the best from every other country and makes it more marketable.
