Everything About the Latest Assassination Attempt at Donald Trump

This morning (16 September), people in Singapore woke up to news of yet another assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

This time, however, it wasn’t as dramatic.

Here’s what happened.

Everything About the Latest Assassination Attempt at Donald Trump

On 15 September, 2024, former President Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM local time when Secret Service agents, performing routine security checks ahead of Trump’s golf game, noticed an armed individual hiding in the bushes adjacent to holes five, six, and seven of the golf course.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was spotted with an AK-47-style rifle protruding from the foliage. Trump was approximately 300 to 500 yards away from the shooter at the time.

Secret Service agents quickly responded, firing four to five rounds at the suspect, who then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Thanks to a witness who captured images of the suspect’s car and license plate, law enforcement was able to intercept and apprehend Routh on the I-95 highway.

Following the incident, authorities discovered an AK-47 rifle, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks near the location where the assailant had been hiding.

The FBI is leading the investigation in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, including the US Secret Service and local sheriff’s offices.

Who Ryan Wesley Routh Is

The 58-year-old suspect has a long criminal history dating back to the 1990s. His most serious offense was a 2002 felony conviction for possessing a weapon of mass destruction.

That sounds scary as that was what was indicated in court filings, but it’s apparently a fully automatic machine gun.

Over the years, he faced multiple misdemeanor charges, including hit-and-run, resisting arrest, and concealed weapons violations. He lived mostly in North Carolina but recently resided in Hawaii, where he ran a shed-building company called Camp Box Honolulu.

Routh claims to have studied at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Routh’s political views appear to have shifted over time. While he voted for Trump in 2016, by 2020, his views had turned critical, and in recent years, he has only supported Democratic candidates. He also voted in the 2024 Democratic primary.

A strong supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Routh claimed to have travelled to Ukraine to fight and actively sought to recruit others to join the cause.

His efforts were covered by multiple news outlets, although his social media accounts have since been suspended.

Routh’s motives for the alleged assassination attempt are still unclear, but his online activity and interviews paint a picture of someone with complex and sometimes contradictory beliefs.

He expressed a willingness to fight and die for causes he believed in, including Ukraine.

Authorities continue to investigate his background and possible motivations, with both state and federal agencies involved.
