A man in Chengdu was exposed to be the opposite of what he claimed to be: a cat lover.
Huang Pingfu, a Cat Lover in Town
According to a report on Shanghaiist, he was known to everyone as the man who loves cats. If they found any strays, they’ll bring them to him to be taken care of.
He even advertised himself on WeChat as a kindhearted cat lover willing to take care of strays or otherwise. To complete the illusion, he has a couple of expensive cats lying around at home.
But at night, he becomes a totally different person
But come night and he’ll transform into his alter ego or his true self. He loads these strays into his vehicle and drives to a slaughterhouse in the countryside according to Chengdu Daily.
And he slaughtered them there.
He told an undercover reporter that he killed up to a hundred cats per night and makes around 3,000 yuan for his effort.
Disguised cat meat as rabbit meat since they taste almost the same
In Chengdu, it’s illegal to sell cat meat so he had to be creative with his approach. He sold to markets and restaurants outside the city and market it as rabbit meat since “cat and rabbit mostly taste the same, and when the meat is ground up, no one can tell the difference”.
Sometimes, because the demand for his meat is so high, he will hire people to steal cats for him.
Currently in Police Custody
After getting exposed by a local animal rights’ group, the police stepped in to shut down the slaughterhouse and free the surviving felines.

He is currently in police custody although people wondered if he will be let off with a minor charge since there isn’t a law against torturing animals in China.
