Symbols have power, and even hand gestures are no different, which is part of the reason why yoga and meditation are still around, with practitioners everywhere around the world.

What’s been popular all these years, however, are only the full body exercises of yoga, and not much of the meditation part. Until now, when people realised they could get some of that sweet spiritual healing benefits without even moving much.

These gestures are known as Mudras. Here are a couple you could try out.

Gyan Mudra

This mudra is supposed to stand for knowledge and concentration. It is said doing this while meditating can improve concentration, cure insomnia and help in anger management.

This mudra balances the ‘air’ element in your body, and can help ease an overanxious mind. It is also good for reducing chest pain due to gas.

This is only a small taste of the expansive world of yoga, meditation and mudras. Many of these mudras require you to be meditating in a specific way, but there are some that do not, and can be done in any position.

Each mudra has a different function, and can help ease a different pain, or boost your energy or health in some manner. If you happen to not believe that simply making hand gestures can do good things for your body, don’t forget that there’s the placebo effect.

Sometimes, when you believe hard enough, it can actually work a little.
