Going green is something that’s catching on in Singapore.

First, you have KFC that refuses to sell straws at their stores anymore.

Then, Burger King followed by announcing that they’re no longer providing plastic lids and straws.

And, of course, the concept of “zero-waste” stores in Singapore is popping up as well.

What is a Zero-Waste Store?

Stuff like plastic packaging, plastic bags and other non-biodegradable stuff adds to the waste problem of the world.

A zero-waste store aims to get rid of the waste by bringing in items in large quantities (no plastic packaging).

Then, the customers bring their own containers to the store to buy the stuff that they need (no plastic bags).

And, because they’re selling from large containers, you can choose the quantity that you need, instead of going for a bigger quantity because “it’s cheaper”.

Then, if you don’t cook as often as you think, you’d have to throw them away (food waste).

Reprovisions: Refill & Replenish

And now, there’s one such store in Jurong Point, the Orchard ION of the far west.

REPROVISIONS is a bulk concept store where customers can buy various items and pay by the gram (no, not the Instagram’s gram, but literally gram).

They sell superfoods, nuts, dried fruits, handmade chocolate and long licorice candies. For those who love snacking but wants to go healthy, you might want to check out on their nuts section.

As well as a wide range of spice blands, pasta and Asian mixes.

Customers who want to buy from the store will have to weigh their containers at the counter.

You will also have to write down the product codes before you start scooping or dispensing the desired products.

But if you don’t have any containers to bring your stuff home in?
