Plane made Emergency Landing Due to Body Odour: 6 Topics S’poreans Talked About Today (3 June)

Unless you’re living under a rock, Avengers: Infinity War was all anybody could talk about a few weeks back.

I’m not going to talk about it anymore in case I accidentally gave out any spoilers. But really, why haven’t you watched it yet?!

But wait till you hear about one of the heroes in the movie fighting off bad guys in real life.

Yup, I’m talking about Benedict Cumberbatch, or you might know him as Dr Strange.

But before that, let’s look at something that even Dr Strange will…feel strange after reading it.

Passenger With Body Odour Forces Flight To Make Emergency Landing

If you’ve been on flights long enough, you’d understand that taking the airplane is overrated.

Remember back when you’re young? You’d tell your friends that you want to fly because it’s cool AF.

Fast forward ten years and you’d probably take back your words. You have to deal with noisy babies, air pressure and unpleasant seat buddies. Sometimes, sweaty ones that might smell that pleasant.

But a body odour so serious a plane had to make an emergency landing? That’s the first.

This incident happened on a Transavia flight HV5666 going to the Spanish holiday island of Gran Canaria.

A man’s body odour was so serious passengers started vomiting and fainting from the smell. The staff on board the flight tried to quarantine him in the toilet but failed.

Wait, quarantine him for having body odour?

The plane’s pilots decided to make an emergency landing at the Portuguese city of Fargo and the man was removed from the plane.

The airline cited “medical reasons” for the emergency landing, but admitted that the man did “smell a bit”.

Back in February, a Transavia flight travelling from Dubai to Amsterdam had to make an emergency landing because a passenger couldn’t stop farting.

It led to a fight between passengers and the pilots then had to make an emergency landing in Vienna.

Dr Strange Heroically Fights Off Four Men Who Beat on Deliveroo Rider in Real Life

Image: straitstimes.com

On 1 June, four men attacked a Deliveroo rider and even smashed a bottle on his head. The 41-year-old British actor, who was on an Uber ride at that time with his wife, saw the incident.

Immediately, he got off the car and shouted at the men to leave the cyclist alone.

He dragged the men away from the cyclist, and dodged their attempts to punch him. The gang fled the scene immediately.

Mr Cumberbatch also acted as Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective on Baker Street, in a drama.

And the best part? The place where the incident happened was very near Baker Street. Interesting.

Kim Jong Un Wishes To Stay at Fullerton, S’pore Likely To Pay The Bill

In case you haven’t heard, the historic US-North Korea summit is likely to take place on 12 June.

And for those who are planning a staycation in Singapore during this period, you might want to avoid Fullerton Hotel, where the North Korean Leader is reported to want to stay at.

That and the Shangri-La Hotel, where the US president is said to be staying at for the summit.

But other than lodgings, another problem surfaced.

Who’s going to pay for the bill, at least for North Korea?

The country is known to be a prideful but cash-poor state. A night at Fullerton Hotel’s presidential suite cost about S$8,000 per night.

The Washington Post reported that while US is willing to foot the bill, it might offend North Korea who may view it as an insult. So US planners are said to be asking Singapore to foot the bill instead.

Will Singapore do it? Who knows, but it seems likely.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said that Singapore is prepared to be a good host and “wants to contribute in our small way so that the summit can happen”.

He also added that Singapore is willing to bear the cost of security and logistics arrangements in hosting the summit.

Well, with a formal end to the Korean war and denuclearisation, I can see why they’re open to contributing. Wouldn’t you? That’s go down in History textbooks leh!

Woman Scolded Stall Owner For Calling Her ‘Girl’ Instead of ‘Woman’, Netizens Catch No Ball

What would you do if a stall owner called you ah boy when you’re 40, what would you do? For me, I’d smile and go, wah auntie! I look young, right?

But then, that’s because I’m pretty chao lao (looks older than my age) lah.

Not this Chinese lady though.

Facebook user, Shawn Koh, took to the social media platform to share his experience. He was grabbing a bite at a small coffee shop in Tampines mall when the incident happened.

The stall owner, after collecting his payment, attended to the Chinese lady behind him. She went, “Yes, girl?”

And shit hits the fan.

The Chinese lady went off like a nuclear bomb, calling the stall owner childish for calling her a girl when she’s obviously a woman.

When Koh attempted to defend the stall owner, the Chinese lady allegedly said, “Why you care so much? She is a Malay!”

In the end, the stall owner smiled at Koh, as if to ask him to let the matter go.

And netizens catch no balls.

But the most important thing in this entire saga is…someone finally managed to stand up for somebody else instead of just putting it online.

Taxi Driver Found Out Indonesia Embassy Will Pay Fares For Indonesian Maids Seeking Assistance From The Embassy

Maids don’t have it easy in Singapore. Singaporeans are hard to please, and they might just meet an abusive employer.

Given that they don’t earn much either, sometimes, they don’t have the resources to escape and get the help they need.

And that is where the Indonesian embassy comes in.

Image: Facebook

Did you know that if you pick up an Indonesian national and send her to the Indonesian embassy, you can claim the owed taxi fare from the embassy as long as you have a receipt?

That was what happened to this taxi driver who recounted his experience on Facebook.

Image: Facebook

He picked up an Indonesian woman off Sixth Avenue and found out that she was escaping from an abusive employer.

She told him that she has no money but he let her go anyway (good on you, uncle!).

When he chatted with a guard at the embassy, he realised that he can claim the taxi fare from the embassy guard, so he made a u-turn, picked up the maid again and send her tot he correct entrance.

And collect the fare at the same time.

So I guess you can say that when you do good things, good things will happen to you, huh?
