Police Investigating Video Of S’pore Man Shouting Gang Chant At TWICE Concert

If you’re always misbehaving in public and making a nuisance out of yourself, don’t. And if you’re someone who has anger management issues and always say things you’ll regret, you’d better stop.

Why?

Because you’re always being watched.

No, I’m not talking about a city where the Government install eyes everywhere to spy on you.

I’m talking about something even scarier. Something that’s even harder to escape from than Police CCTVs.

I’m talking about a country where almost everyone has a smartphone and citizens have a habit of uploading videos.

And the authorities pay attention to them.

Police Investigating Man Chanting Gang Chant at TWICE Concert

I’m pretty sure everybody knows TWICE. Or at least, every hot-blooded male should know them.

They’re a girl group made up of 9 pretty girls. Scratch that, make them extremely pretty girls.

And they had a concert in Singapore on 17 June.

In case you’re unaware, TWICE typically have songs where fans can shout out the chant to complete the song with their idols.

Like this one.

Unfortunately for TWICE, one of the concert-goer wasn’t a true fan and decided to shout out his own version of a cheer.

The infamous “369” (sah lak gau) gang chant, which is typically used by gangsters from the Sio Kun Tong gang in Singapore.

Unfortunately for him, he was caught on video. The video was uploaded online and went viral almost immediately. It may have been funny to him then, but I can bet that he’s not laughing anymore now.

The police were alerted to the video and said they’re now looking into the matter.

Under the Societies Act, gang-related activity of any kind is illegal in Singapore. And you can be fined, jailed or even caned if convicted.

This isn’t the first time people got into trouble for shouting gang chants

If you’re thinking, aiya, that guy just damn suay, not exactly. In case you’re unaware, people got into trouble because they claim that they’re gangsters.

I’m from a gang and I’ll call my brothers to beat you up

Back in March 2018, a security guard was jailed 1 year and 4 months. Rajagopal Murugan was filmed having a expletive-filled telephone conversation with his security manager.

In the phone call, he claimed that he is a member of secret society, Ang Soon Tong, and threatened to get his fellow gang members to beat him up.

The manager called the police, who investigated and found that he was indeed a senior member of a secret society.

Yelling Gang Chants at a Funeral

A group of men were filmed shouting the Sah Lak Kau gang slogan at a funeral procession near Kim Tian Road.

After establishing the identities of all 7 men involved in the incident, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched an island-wide raid and arrested seven men aged 27 to 50 years old.

The funeral was for a 55-year-old warehouse assistant who died of an asthma attack.

The police said that they take “a stern view of gang-related activities” and will “come down hard on those who choose to be associated with gangs”.

In other words, don’t say you’re from a gang, even jokingly. Because you might just get a visit from the police.

Or, like Hougang NPC likes to say, the only gang in town.
