Ministry of Manpower Announces Public Holidays in 2019

Yes, yes, I know. This was probably reported earlier this year.

But seeing as 2018 is coming to an end soon and that most, if not all of us are probably in dire need of some motivation to survive till the end of the year, we’ve decided to write this article anyway.

According to the Ministry of Manpower, there are 11 public holidays in 2019.

Long Weekends:

  • Good Friday (3 days)
  • Vesak Day (3 days)
  • National Day and Hari Raya Haji (4 days)
  • Deepavali (3 days)

Next year’s pretty sad, with all the public holidays only resulting in 4 long weekends without taking a single day of your precious annual leave.

Take 2 Days Annual Leave To Convert 4 Long Weekends Into 6 Long Weekends

There are two types of holiday-ers in Singapore. The type who’ll whack their annual leave one times good one and travel away from the office for some R&R.

And some who prefer quantity over quality by taking a short trip every long weekend they can get.

If you’re the second type of person, just two days annual leave will be enough to give you six long weekends to travel in 2019.

On New Year’s Day:

You can choose to take one day’s annual leave on 31 Dec 2018 to enjoy a long weekend from 29 Dec to 1 Jan.

Just take note that if your company happen to be one of those who throws an end-of-the-year celebration and give their employees half-day off, you’ll still need to take one full-day annual leave to siam the office.

Chinese New Year:

Lelong, lelong! For 4 Feb only, use-1-get-4 deal.

For the Chinese New Year period, use one day’s annual leave on 4 Feb and you’ll be able to enjoy a 5-day long weekend.

It’s long enough to go to Bangkok, tailor yourself a custom-made suit and get it before you fly back to Singapore.

Again, take the annual leave at your own risk because you might just be forced to stay home and spring-clean for your parents. #JustSaying

You’re welcome! 😉
