Like any good horror story town, Yishun deserves its own film adaptation. Just look at all those classics like The Amityville Horror or the town in The Mist.
Scary stuff, and not all fictional.
Actually, Yishun just got its own movie trailer, courtesy of a Singaporean YouTube channel, JUO Productions. Take a look.
The trailer, said to be based on true events, features a young couple moving into the horror of the North known as Yishun. On the outside, Yishun appears to be like any other part of Singapore, a quiet, homely HDB estate.
Little did they know they might never get out.
Their property agent gets murdered, every resident they meet are either insane animal torturers or just plain insane, and mysterious figures stalk their every move.
Sinkholes into Hell appear at random, the sky opens up to swallow living things, and even Godzilla makes a guest appearance.
And when the couple attempts to drive out of the estate, they find themselves driving endlessly around Yishun, unable to leave.
If Yishun were a movie, it might be the next horror movie sensation after the Halloween franchise. Singapore’s very own town of terror with stories for days.
Just like how Halloween had a ton of sequels, you can be sure Yishun would have a ton more. Nothing like a semi-fictional haunted/cursed town you can literally take the MRT to, to spice up your life in Singapore.
Jack Neo (or whichever local director), better keep an eye on this opportunity!
After all…didn’t Netflix just used Yishun as a premise in the next season of Stranger Things? No? No meh?
Since you’re here, why not check out Goody Feed’s YouTube videos as well? They’re so Singaporean, I bet you’ll like them!
