Ever been to a foreign country and you like it so much that you feel like staying there permanently? Or are you sick and tired of the high cost of living in Singapore? If your answer is yes, then you’re probably the 1 out of 2 Singaporeans which wants to migrate out of Singapore.

Based on a results from an online study done by a global research company Iposos and data solutions provider SSI back in December 2015, it shows that 42 per cent of Singaporeans want to migrate out of Singapore.

The survey was conducted on 1,050 Singaporeans across all demographics. While there were 42 percent who responded that they would like to migrate, there were 36.6 percent who did not want to leave the country and 21.2 percent were unsure.

Even though Singaporeans rated Singapore’s safety at 80 percent, standard of education at 74 percent and economy at 68 percent, there was still a high percentage of locals who wish to migrate. Why is this so?

A number still felt that there were areas of improvement in areas such as caring for the less fortunate (25 percent of responded stated needs improvement), ease of starting new business (23 percent stated needs improvement), freedom of speech (35 percent stated needs improvement) and almost 50 percent of Singaporeans felt that the cost of living in Singapore is an area which greatly needs improvement.

According to the economist intelligence unit, Singapore is ranked number one when it comes to the most expensive cities in the world. Following in 2nd place is Switzerland, Zurich and Hong Kong in 3rd place. For such a small city, our WCOL index is even higher than big cities like New York.

Aside from those improvements, values such as “Honest and transparent Government)”, “Be just and fair to all” and “Being progressive” are considered important to Singaporeans.

So what do you think about this survey? Are you the one who wishes to migrate or the one that feels that there’s nowhere else that can be called home aside from Singapore?
