1 Day After PM Lee Spoke About Infant Milk Formula, Dumex Mamil Gold is Recalled

Infant Milk Formula was one of the many key points in PM Lee’s National Day Rally speech.

Specifically, how the government made it cheaper.

You can read our full article on his national day rally speech if you’re interested. (P/S: You should because he explains why Singapore is insistent on the 99-year-lease thingy)

And continuing with the trend of Singapore politicians and how things tend to go Murphy when they get involved, infant milk got into trouble.

Specifically, Mamil Gold Infant Formula Stage 1 from Dumex

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has ordered for a batch of Dumex Mamil Gold infant milk formula – Step 1 to be recalled on 20 Aug.

They’ve detected Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria in the milk powder.

While Cronobacter infections are rare, they can be dangerous to newborn infants. If contracted, 50% of the infants will die and those who survive will have neurological impairment.

AVA says that symptoms of meningitis or sepsis include poor feeding, fever or lethargy.

Two Tins From The Affected Batch Failed The Test

If you’ve bought this specific infant milk powder, be sure to check the batch number carefully.

The tests found two tins of infant milk formula that belong to the batch 091117R1 and expire on 11 Sep 2019.

The products were made in Malaysia.

When informed about the issue, Dumex worked closely with AVA to retrieve the specific batch from shelves. The recall was completed and Dumex is now investigating the issue.

Dumex and AVA advised customers who’ve bought the affected batch to not let their babies consume the products.

What Should You Do?

  • Check your Dumex Mamil Gold infant milk formula – Step 1 for its batch number and expiry date.
  • If the tin belongs to the batch 091117R1 and expires on 11 Sep 2019, do not consume.
  • Call Dumex’s hotline at 1800-265-3188 or email them at [email protected] for a refund.
  • If your child is sick or feeling unwell, bring him or her to the doctor immediately. Cronobacter infections are rare, they can be dangerous to newborn infants.
  • If your child falls ill after consumption from the affected batch, you can approach Dumex for a reimbursement of the medical fees (reimbursement will be on a case-by-case basis)

Netizens Now Worried About Consuming All Dumex Infant Formula

Given how there are problems with the Stage 1 formula, parents are now worried that the milk formula for other stages might have problems too.

Dumex assures all parents that the other stages of their milk formula are all safe for consumption.

And that they are currently working closely with AVA to investigate the incident. At this point in time, their replies seemed scripted as they do not want to release speculation about the issue before the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, I have to admit that the parents are having a hard time now.

Not only do they worry every time they feed their baby, it can be pretty hard to change your baby’s preference for a milk formula.

Plus, it’s pretty hard to find a suitable one for them too.

But of course, if you’ve watched PM Lee’s speech, you’ll remember this: all milk formulas are good. People in the past anyhowly drink and they still grow up strong.

Well, in fact, stronger *coughstrawberriescough*
