We all know that the hawker culture in Singapore is in danger of dying out, so why not take this chance to eat as much as you can? Coming from a Goody Feed writer who has probably eaten more chee cheong fun than you’ll ever have in your entire life, here are 10 of the BEST CHEE CHEONG FUN that you should try before they go extinct.
品味Hong Kong Style
品味Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun is a Hong Kong variety which does not have the sweet sauce and chilli. Its char siew is absolutely succulent, better than normal char siew you get from hawker stalls.
Pek Kio Market And Food Court Centre #01-25 41A Cambridge Road S(211041) Closed on Wednesdays
Freshly Made
Another stall that pops up to mind when you think of Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun is the famous one at Old Airport Road. Just for $2, you can get a plate of piping hot Chee cheong fun, in which fillings practically EXPLODE in your mouth!
Old Airport Road Food Centre #01-155 51 S(390051)
Shang Hai (for local style)
This local style Chee cheong fun is priced reasonably for just $1.20. This is chewy, and I prefer this local style, with its dark sweet sauce that does not leave you too thirsty, and is not too watery.
Chinatown Complex Food Centre #02-174 Blk 335 Smith Street S(050335)
Hong Kee
This stall specialises in dim sum and to me, this is one of the few stalls where texture, consistency and sauce of chee cheong fun are really just nice and delectable. I had to get 2 more rolls.
#01-71, Aljunied Ave 2 Market and Food Centre, Blk 117Aljunied Ave 2, 380117
Nan Rong
Nan Ron Chee Cheong Fun was quick in service despite having a queue. They specialise in dim sum as well, and I ordered a spread and while all of them weren’t the best, but they absolutely do not fall below less than average.
#01-11, Bendemeer Market and Food Centre, Blk 29 Bendemeer Road, 330029
Luan Jie Mei Shi 銮姐美食 (for local style)
This stall sells Chee Cheong fun with homemade sauce, so you’re guaranteed a sauce that isn’t mass produced.
Amoy Street Food Centre Stall #01-30 7 Maxwell Road S(069111) Closed on Sundays
Wen Dao Shi
This one comes with different fillings, from shrimp to char siew, and this version was very, very chewy.
126 Sims Ave, 387449, 24 hours
Anson Town
Anson Town stall has a very café-ish vibe that is every different from all the ones I have eaten. Try out their TURNIP chee cheong fun! Yes, Turnip as the filling, and it comes without sauce!
324P Changi Road S(419799)
Shanghai Zhu Chang Fen
Despite its factory made Chee cheong fun, its sauce is, of course, home-made. Sweet and thick, it is extremely savoury, but I felt it could be lighter!
Blk 335 Smith Street #02-174 Chinatown Food Centre, Singapore 050335 Opening hours: 6:00AM to 8:30PM
Hong Kong Style
This stall wins for its service – the auntie gave me one more roll just because I talked to her! Furthermore, their version rice roll is chewy and does not have any strong rice taste. Its sauce, though standard, complements well with its chewy texture.
Blk 726 Clementi West Street 2, #01-153 Blk 726 Clementi West Market and Food Centre, Singapore 120726
