IKEA is probably the best place to get affordable and pretty sturdy, nice furniture. The only downside is that you probably need to do a bit of DIY before you can start using most of the items. But if you are not one to do self-assembling, perhaps these 10 other furniture shop options can placate you.
Taobao
Since you are buying furniture online and won’t be able to see and feel the item physically before purchase, be sure to check on things like weight which will affect the shipping costs, and also if the item can even be shipped to Singapore. But all those aside, you can get pretty good quality and good-looking furniture pieces through this site without the hassle of having to fix them up yourself. Some of them come at really awesome prices too.
Crate & Barrel
Located at ION and Orchard Gateway, this furniture store can be considered slightly upmarket, what with its rather costly pieces. But in their favour, their offerings are really attractive and have tempted me to get some of their items a few times. They seem to offer a lot more for apartments or houses with more space. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Carousell
Based locally, Carousell allows anyone in Singapore to buy, sell and trade their goods via this virtual marketplace. Because the majority of the sellers here are based in Singapore, it may even be possible for you to have a look at their wares before taking it home. You will be surprised at the number of people selling furniture on this site. And some of those are really not bad at all.
Qoo10
Perhaps more popular with clothing and food items, Qoo10 is also a relatively good site to score some affordable and nice furniture pieces too. Check out their “Daily Deals” as religiously as you can to snare the best deals in the market. But as usual, please practice caution when dealing with the dealers on this site as most of them are foreign companies and sellers.
Courts
Probably one of the more established names in the furniture and appliances industry in Singapore, it has a good range of furniture ranging from beds to mattresses to office chairs at reasonable prices. In fact, Courts even has installment payment plans which makes your purchases so much easier on your wallet.
ScanTeak
ScanTeak is well-known for selling furniture made from teak. If you are looking for durable furniture and don’t exactly have a budget, this may be what you are looking for. This brand sells predominantly the bigger pieces of furniture like dining tables and bed frames but if you are looking for bookshelves or coffee tables, they do have a few choice pieces for your consideration too.
Foundry Store
Into more artistic designs for your home? Perhaps you should check out Foundry Store. The pieces in this store have apparently been curated for their heritage, durability and creative thought processes so you can understand why their price tags may cause you a mini heart attack. But hey, you pay the price for beauty I guess?
Muji
Known as a Japanese concept store, Muji sells anything from clothes to shoes to tidbits and furniture, all Japanese inspired. I love browsing through the offerings here and looking at their furniture pieces as they are super exquisite and oh-so-Japanese. Things here are not cheap though. A small sofa piece may set you back in the thousands but if you have money in the bank and want your home to resemble a Japanese abode in Tokyo, this is the place for you.
Big Box
Tucked away in Jurong East, Big Box is a relatively new player in the industry. However, they do offer a good range of quality sofa sets, coffee table sets and even appliances for those who are starting up their new homes. Prices are rather affordable, though some people may consider them pricey. Look out for fun furniture items like swings and even garden table and chair sets.
Castlery
High quality, contemporary furniture. That’s what most people think of when they hear Castlery. You can expect pieces from sofas to armchairs to dining tables and even lighting. Prices are a little on the high side though but that shouldn’t put many people off from purchasing some of their items. If you want more choices, you can even buy more of their furniture from their website. Delivery fees are from S$25 to S$50 but is free for orders above S$300.
