What To Eat in Johor Bahru At Night When You Don’t Want To Go Back To S’pore
Here are 10 awesome supper places worth a visit or you might as well go home straightaway.
Chicken Chop Hutan Bandar, Kolam Aye
The price for a plate of chicken chop here is dirt cheap. You will be paying RM5.30 for 3 well-fried and juicy pieces of chicken breast, coleslaw and fries.
No. 33 Jalan Tasek Utara, Kolam Ayer, 80100 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Restoran Ah Kaw, Taman Pelangi
The must-try dish here has got to be the San Lou Bee Hoon. Their dessert, “or ni” or yam paste, is done in a completely different manner compared to the Singaporean version.
33, Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia The last order is at 9.30pm, so be here early for a succulent bite.
Hao Wang Coffee House
This joint is not known for its coffee despite its name. Instead, it serves the best grilled seafood on banana leaves that’ll leave you wanting for more.
The restaurant is located at Jalan Dato Abdullah Tahir and opens till 1am.
Fa Ge Lok Lok
I’ve had my fair share of lok loks around town. Some were downright obscene. I thank my lucky stars for the gift of Fa Ge Lok Lok.
They’ve got one helluva selection–duck meat and even salmon. They hit the right note on seasoning as well, and I come back every time for another bite.
The Lok Lok station is just in front of New York Hotel, and it’s open until the wee hours of the morning.
Tapai Tang, Taman Melodies
This Perak-born guy has got his salt-baked chicken down to an art. He only uses kampong chicken. The flavours you experience are subtle and not overpoweringly salty. Another dish worth mentioning is the wat tan hor. You’ll have to devour it to relish and revere it. This eating spot is available right up to 4am, so take your time and enjoy your food.
128, Jalan Chengai, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
The Skybar, Hotel Jen, Puteri Harbour
Soak in the views of the harbour and enjoy a chocolate lava cake with a hot cuppa. If you prefer releasing your stress buds with alcohol, go for the nachos with a pint. Either way, these two dishes are bound to blow your mind.
Persiaran Puteri Selatan, 79100 Nusajaya, Johor, Malaysia
Maio Restaurant, Jalan Skudai
Try out the seafood marinara pizza. Now that’s what I call fresh! It tasted like it was just unloaded from the boat!
Jalan Bertingkat Skudai, 80200 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia Tue – Sun: 11 am – 11 pm
Chez Papa French Bistro and Wine Bar
Splash some money around and dine in the best restaurant in JB. I’ve tried the French onion soup here, and I will gladly sell my soul to come back for another bowl.
38;40, Jalan Jaya, Taman Maju Jaya, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia Mon-Sat: 6 – 10:30 pm
Restaurant Ah Piaw
You’re in for a treat here. They’ve got awesome wan tan mee.
And here’s the catch in their operating hours. They run the business from 10 pm to 10 am every day. In other words, only for supper and breakfast. Now that’s a first! You’d find the place pretty close to KSL City.
12, Jalan Kelewang, Taman Sri Tebrau, 80050 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Famous Congee (飞粥), Taman Sutera Utama
If you want hot supper on a cold night in JB, this is the place to be. They cook Hongkie styled porridge, with hearty broths made from pork bones and chicken carcasses. A slurpy bowl of goodness is sometimes what we all need at night. The shop closes at 2am, by the way.
38, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/4, Taman Sutera Utama, 81300 Skudai, Johor, Malaysia
