The common reaction after hearing about the return of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) would probably be to call up your friend for one last meal before the no dine-in rule kicks in.
You and your friend would probably order a main dish and some drinks, perhaps even some dessert.
Here’s another recommendation: how about 10 bows of curry noodles?
67YO Woman Finished 10 Bowls of Curry Noodles in 45 Minutes
With the no dine-in rule coming into effect on Thursday (22 July), 67-year-old Jiang Ah Hua will not be able to enjoy her favourite curry noodles in the air-conditioned Tampines food court for the following month.
Knowing this, Jiang—also nicknamed “Big Appetite Auntie”—pre-ordered 10 bowls of hot curry noodles from the stall on Tuesday (20 July), planning to satisfy her curry noodle cravings for the next month in one go.
As reported by Lianhe Zaobao, other than playing with her grandson in her free time, Jiang would also visit the Koufu food court at Block 478 Tampines Street 44 with her husband every Wednesday and Thursday—she is a loyal customer of the curry noodle stall there.
Given her love of the curry noodle, Jiang was understandably sad when she got to know of the return to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) and the subsequent banning of dining in. With the return back to Phase 2, she would now no longer be able to feast on her favourite curry noodles in the air-conditioned food court.
Hence, she decided to eat to her heart’s content on Tuesday, and proceeded to order 10 bowls of curry noodles from the stall owner.
The stall Jiang ordered from, Noodle Society, sells its curry noodles at three different prices, depending on its price: S$3 for a small bowl, S$5 for a medium bowl, and S$8 for a big bowl.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Jiang had ordered 10 small bowls of curry noodles.
Stall Owner Offers it On The House
When he first received the auntie’s order, the stall owner thought Jiang was bluffing. Hence, he had told Jiang that if she could finish 10 bowls by herself, it would all be on the house.
As it turns out, Jiang ended up finishing her 10 bowls of curry noodles in just 45 minutes, which greatly surprised the stall owner.
The stall owner, 43-year-old Huang Guo Xiong, said: “The auntie looks so skinny, and is also at such an age, but who would have thought she could eat so much. In my 10 years of running this stall, this is my first time seeing an auntie that can eat so much.”
No Dining In From Thursday Onwards
With the spike in cases and the discovery of two new clusters, the KTV cluster and the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, most of us probably foresaw the return back to Phase 2.
Hello darkness, my old friend.
After barely 2 weeks of enjoying the 5 pax dining in rule, the return back to Phase 2 also means that dining in will not be allowed presently.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), both indoor and outdoor dine-in F&B establishments, including hawker centres and Food courts, can now only offer takeaway and delivery options.
The Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) period will end on 18 August 2021.
Since we can’t dine out, here are some easy instant noodles recipes for those who don’t feel like dabaoing or ordering food:
