You’ve met this girl, she’s the most awesome person you’ve ever known. Funny, smart, pretty, outgoing, and she even laughs at your lame jokes. Before you know it, you’re in love. You plan for that ultimate moment to confess. You rehearse everything over and over again in your head. Then D-day comes along and you blurt your heart out.
But wait! What’s this she’s saying to you? Yup, she’s giving you mixed signals, or perhaps it’s a ‘maybe’. You can’t be sure what she’s actually saying so you hang around hoping and waiting for something more tangible. Let’s face it though; the painful truth may be that she has put you in the zone, a.k.a the ‘Friendzone’.

If you’ve ever heard any of the following, you’ve probably been friendzoned without even realizing it! It’s time to move on and mosey your way out of this troublesome situation!
You’re like a brother to me
A classic excuse but extremely hurtful. If she says this, she may still want you around in her life but you’ll never be more than a convenient shoulder to cry on. Our advice is, move on as there are other fish in the sea.
I’m not prepared for a relationship
When it comes down to it, a relationship ultimately isn’t about being prepared or not. It’s about whether you want to or don’t want to. From this response, you can definitely tell which side she’s on.
I want to focus on my career/studies
Maintaining a relationship and succeeding in one’s professional or academic life is totally possible with some discipline, maturity and self control. So using this as an excuse is rather flimsy.
You’re too good for me
This sounds like she’s praising you, but in actual fact, it’s the complete opposite. So don’t be fooled.
I don’t want to ruin our friendship
This one just takes the cake in terms of obviousness. Really, it can’t get more obvious than this. If she really wants your friendship that bad, why not just have an exclusive relationship.
I’m never having another boyfriend again
Break-ups can really hurt a lot. However, if she’s still getting over a bad ex-boyfriend but sincerely and really likes you, she’ll go for it.
I don’t want to be tied down
Let’s face it; everyone wants to be tied down, as long as they’ve found the right one, who can make their heart go all fluttery and their cheeks burn hot. Apparently, you’re just not him.

I’m leaving the country/town soon
Once again, if she’s really into you, a few thousand kilometers are nothing and the relationship can still work out over a long distance. Keyword: really into you.
My parents don’t let me date
This may be true, but parents can always be persuaded. If she wants a relationship, she will give you a specific period to wait, rather than leaving you hanging. This excuse can be used with other authority figures like ‘Pastor’, ‘Teacher’ and even ‘God’.
We’re just not right for each other
Relationships take a lot of hard work, and people with different opinions and personalities can still be together, with a huge dose of mutual love and respect. Once again, if she’s willing to try it out with you, this excuse won’t even come up.
Of course, any one of these excuses may be sincere, and the sweet girl just wants to let you know she’s not interested, but doesn’t want to hurt you. Therefore, it’s time to make up your mind and move on.
