Running is…admittedly not everybody’s cup of tea and many of us would die before going for a run. However, for those of us out there who might actually look forward to running, be it for health benefits or de-stressing, it could get a little boring running the same old routes over and over again.

Looking for a challenge? Here are 10 places to jog in Singapore that will give you a good challenge and make you feel accomplished (if you make it to the end, that is).

Plenty of us know where MacRitchie is and it is a popular spot for people of all ages to go for a run. But did you know that if you begin at the carpark and make a loop around the reservoir, it adds up to almost a whopping 10km? Plus, you get the added bonus of being surround by lush greenery and beautiful waters.

Although the distance of this route is not mindblowing or extreme, being only around 4km, the Bukit Timah Hill is considerably upslope, which would present you with a challenge and allow you to push yourself all the way! If you’re a fan of running inclines on the treadmill or just want to get a more intense workout without having to actually run far per se, give this a go.

This is another popular spot frequented by many, be it to run or just to have some fun in the sun. The route here adds up to over 20+km, which definitely makes it a challenging one for everyone. However, you are sure to feel revitalised by the scenery and general buzz and activity of the area!

Southern Ridges Trail

Again, this might not sound too daunting at 9km for some, but the real challenge comes in the form of the many uphill slopes that are sure to give your legs a good workout. If you dare to tackle this route, do not worry because your perseverance will be highly rewarded by the beautiful view at the end of the trail.

Changi Beach Route

If you for some reason think that you would enjoy the sound of aeroplanes nearby as you run, then Changi might be a good choice since it also measures around 13km in length, which is bound to be a long run. While it might not be the most soothing sound, it certainly makes for an interesting experience

Fort Canning Park

It might be only 3km long, but throw in uphill slopes and a flight of stairs into the mix and you now have yourself a nicely challenging route. Lots of people don’t like climbing the stairs, but if you have fitness in mind, it is actually a pretty good activity !

It does not have flat paved roads and you will be running on uneven terrain, which makes a nicely challenging run for anyone, be it beginners, or the more advanced runners who wish to run the whole 10km of this trail.

Although not an official trail or area specialised for running, there are a few people who love running at the CBD area on the weekends when it’s mostly quieter, starting at Tanjong Pagar and passing by places such as Raffles City and Marina Bay. At the end of the tarmac route, you will find that you have clocked 12km!
