Sometimes, the lines from Descendants of the Sun are just so damn romantic that we almost cringe in embarrassment. Yet, they are just so memorable. Also, being a military drama, there are definitely many times when even guys would relate to patriotic quotes by Captain Yoo. However, saying them aloud in real life just makes us look stupid, or unrealistic. But still, they are the coolest lines ever.
“Protecting beauties, elders, and children is my rule.”
This is possibly slickest line that is most often reused in the drama. There’s just something so charismatic yet humorous about Captain Yoo whenever he says this. Say this in real life and people will look at you weirdly.
“I believe I fight for the peace & freedom for the land we live in.”
You have to admit that this is a pretty great line which totally shows your patriotism. But if you say this to your NS bros in normal situations, they will be like, “Bro, you bodoh already ah?”
“The doctor will save her patient and I will protect what I have to.”
*Screams* There is nothing more charming than an assertive man who is able to control the situation. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t soldiers or doctors.
“It’s better to die here than to live here.”
Obviously, we can’t use it here. If you are reading this, you already have access to the Internet and a computer or smartphone, which definitely says something about your privileges.
“War is easy while peace is always an issue. Perhaps that’s why dictators always live long.”
So, so true. But again, this will sound weird in real life coming from our mouths.
“A life chasing after money is better than being chased by money.”
Perhaps, this is the most applicable line in Singapore. However, it’s almost a social faux pas to say it out loud, even though money is the one thing everyone wants.
“I don’t think I will let him live. I think I’ll just leave him. If I let him live, that could kill more people.”
Dr. Kang rejecting the opportunity to save a life? Wow, this was a first in the drama. But it will never happen in real life for us normal people because our lives ain’t a drama.
“It seems like… our fates are just colliding while we are passing by.”
The romance in this line gets our hearts tingling. Star-crossed lovers… Is there anything else more romantic?
“How do you feel?” “I miss you.” “Did you eat yet?” “I miss you.”
If you give these answers, your boyfriend/girlfriend is probably going to think you are going crazy.
“Did we run 27 laps already? My goodness.”
If you ever try to cheat on your laps during NS, good luck with that, recruit.
Over in TikTok, there’s a drama involving property agents that’s caused by us. Here’s what happened:
