We’ve all heard of disturbing and cruel murders, and some rather mysterious and confusing until the police solved these homicides.
And one of these bizarre and gruesome murders took place in Kuala Lumpur, with triple family deaths. The bodies were only discovered on 26 September 2016 when police forced their way into the apartment located at the Taman Sri Sinar neighbourhood. Here are 10 facts about this murder case that you should know.
A family of 6, which 3 died
The Cheah family consisted of the father, mother and 4 young children. The two older brothers were 6 and 8 years old, and they were the only survivors along with their 35-year-old mother.
Father was violent and mother was sick
The father, Cheah Hing soon was known to be abusive after both his wife and he were unemployed about a year ago. He would lose his temper easily, and is believed to have abused his wife and kids. The mother was said to be too traumatised and out of touch from the world, which was the reason why she couldn’t protect her children.
The two surviving children were in horrible condition
The two brothers were covered in scars and bruises, and the police cited that there was even “a large wound on the back of the head,” as well as black fingertips. That could be a possibility from being fractured. The shocked Sentul police department found these boys horribly traumatised, and were brought to the Child Interview Centre.
The youngest baby may have died 3 months ago
Cheah Kai Wen’s body was kept in the house after the father hurled a chair at him when he was crying. The father had only realized the baby was dead next day and kept his body in plastic containers to hide the foul smell.
Unclear how older daughter died
It was unclear when the incident happened and how the 3-year-old girl Cheah Kai Sze died. Her body was also stuffed in plastic containers, and then wrapped in large plastic bags. The father had locked the bodies up in a room and incense was also burnt to mask the smell.
Father died last
He was found sprawled in the master bedroom, believed by police to have taken poison and killing himself. He had only committed suicide after murdering his kids.
Mother was initially a suspect
The mother was arrested on Monday, 26 September 2016 as she was initially a suspect. She had gaps and lapses in her story to the police, and she had claimed that she believed in her husband when he told her their two dead kids were living with relatives. However, she was reported to be staying in the same apartment.
What’s even more disturbing
The mother might have told the two brothers to sleep beside their father’s body after she found him dead, and claimed that she couldn’t call the police due to her low phone credit.
She topped up her phone credit next day
But she still didn’t call the cops. She went on about her day, sending the two brothers to her father-in-law’s and calling the funeral parlour. She only managed to contact the police after the funeral parlour told her to.
Post mortem results to find out cause of death
The story as told from the two brothers and mother is surely horrendous although it is still unclear. Investigations are still ongoing and the police have mentioned that they were waiting for post mortem results to find out the cause of deaths.
