Fans of the Jurassic Park series are going to be very happy to know that there is a new dinosaur in town.
By way of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
And it is going to have everything we love about those older movies. Dinosaurs, action and an awesome kick-ass hero to save the day.
Our hero is going to be Chris Pratt btw.
I don’t know about you but I really am wishing now that they called the movie Star Lord versus Dinosaurs instead. Or Jurassic World: Star Lord’s Kingdom.
Marvel fans, where ya at?
Before you guys make your way down to the cinemas to relive your childhood, here are 10 things you should know about the Jurassic World movie.
1. Singapore release date.
Jurassic World will be out in cinemas…
*drumroll please*
…On the 6 June 2018 That’s tomorrow!
Strangely you can find all kinds of release dates online (if you Google, it’ll show 11 June), but checking the GV website shows that you can buy tickets for tomorrow.
Better book your tickets if you wanna catch it the moment it is released though, because I have a funny feeling that tickets are going to be selling out fast.
Especially since it’s on a weekday and weekday movie prices are the bombdiggs.
Seriously though, how are they getting away with charging an obscene amount of money on weekends for movies…
In any case, it doesn’t matter which movie theatre you go to – Cathay, Shaw, GV, WE. The movie will be released in all the cinemas tomorrow.
At risk of sounding repetitive, check the timings for your preferred cinema and book your tickets in advance.
Unless you’re okay with having some neck trauma inducing seats.
Then that’s your choice.
2. The casting of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
If you’ve grown up with the old Jurassic Park movies, you might be anticipating some cameos from the old cast dribbled into the movie.
And you will be happy to know that Jeff Goldblum will come back in the 2018 movie as Dr Ian Malcolm – the same role he played in the first Jurassic Park in 1993!
Other than him, the cast for Fallen Kingdom is pretty much all new.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and B. D. Wong will carry on with the same roles that they had in the 2015 Jurassic World.
Which reminds me, what better way to get ready for the 2018 release here than by spending the night watching the 2015 Jurassic World to recap?
Besides those we have mentioned, the rest of the cast will be completely different and new.
3. The Jurassic series, ranked.
This is probably a great time to mention that the Jurassic Park series has 4 movies to its name.
It’s probably also a good time to talk about how they all fared – from the worst to the best.
- Obviously the movie that did the best would be the classic, first-ever Jurassic Park (1993), with an approval rate of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.1/10 on IMDB. Ah childhood…
- The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) also ranks pretty close to the next movie. It has an approval rate of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.5/10 on IMDB.
- Jurassic Park III (2001) comes in last place, having the worst approval rate. It rates 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and 5.9/10 on IMDB. And we all know people on IMDB are way nicer.
- Jurassic World (2015) did pretty good on the big screens. The modern revamp of the classics got an approval rate of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.1/10 on IMDB. One of the few times that RT and IMDB have been on the same page regarding a movie. And it’s not hard to see why…I thought the movie kicked butt!
4. The movie poster.
The movie poster for Fallen Kingdom has come under quite a bit of scrutiny.
Can you guess why?
Because they don’t have any of the main (human) cast on the poster. It features only the dinosaurs!
Maybe they ran out of money to pay the cast for taking a poster picture. I hear Chris Pratt’s net worth has gone all the way up since he punched Thanos in the face.
The director of the movie has also stated that the 2018 movie will have the most dinosaurs ever featured in all the franchise.
I guess it makes sense that they are the ones being featured on the poster then.
The infamous raptor ‘Blue’ will be featured as fighting alongside the humans against the newest genetically engineered dinosaur – the Indoraptor.
5. Weaponised dinosaurs.
In the latest episode of ‘humans just have no common sense whatsoever’, this 2018 movie will cover one very important thing.
That the human race are made up of idiots.
Because in this movie, you’ll see that a volcanic eruption occurs.
And that there are people wanting to run into the park and rescue dinosaurs.
To use them as weapons.
Cuz it literally makes so much sense to take a very dangerous animal species that is incredibly difficult to tame, one that wants to kill you, and try to make some money off it.
So smart. 10 points for you.
6. Opening weekend revenue.
If you’re wondering how much this movie is going to be making in the first weekend it opens, you’re not the only one.
While it is hard to find stats on this for the Singaporean demographic, in North America alone, the movie is estimated to bring in about US$140-150 million dollars.
Woah, baby!
The Jurassic World 2015 movie brought in a grand total of US$1.67 BILLION worldwide.
All that’s left is to see if the 2018 movie blows those huge figures out the water.
But of course, Infinity Wars beat it to ashes lah, having earned almost USD$2 billion so far and is still in cinema.
7. Launch timings are very different globally.
Yeah, yeah, I know they usually are different.
But this time, Singapore cinemas will be among the first in the world to have this movie on the big screen.
The movie will only be released in North America on June 22. (which explains the first point of why people are confused).
Wonder why?
Well, there have been many speculations but this is the most probable.
Incredibles 2 premiers in the US on 15 June apparently. And box offices don’t want these two hugely anticipated movies to run against each other.
It’s all about the profits you see.
And the 2018 movie’s overseas schedules have been staggered so that they don’t directly clash with the ongoing FIFA World Cup too.
Again, it’s all about that ka-ching!
8. Jurassic theme park attractions.
Did you know that the Jurassic franchise has 4 theme park attractions in the world?
Making it quite exclusive and very high-demand.
And did you know one of those attractions just happen to be in our little island home?
That’s right.
The 4 attractions are at: Universal Studios Hollywood Los Angeles, California Jurassic Park The Ride; Universal Orlando Resort Orlando, Florida Jurassic Park River Adventure; Universal Studios Japan Osaka, Japan The Flying Dinosaur; and last but not least…
Universal Studios Singapore, Sentosa Island Singapore Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure!
Now I know why there’s always a super long line for this ride.
Go book your ticket to USS and hop on this ride before watching the 2018 Jurassic movie.
It’ll probably add to that movie-going experience.
9. The Jurassic franchise is 25 years old.
The Jurassic franchise officially turned 25 years old in Singapore on 30 May.
The movie first released on our sunny shores on 30 May 1993.
And did you know that the T-Rex’s roar in that movie was a mix of a dog, penguin, alligator, tiger and elephant sounds?
Incredible.
Feeling old yet?
Oh, and people all over the world are making fanmade videos of their favourite scenes from Jurassic Park.
The franchise’s YouTube page publishes some of the best ones, so if you want a laugh or a chance to be featured, get on that boat!
10. Chronicle Collectibles.
Have you heard of Chronicle Collectibles? If you haven’t, well they’re basically a store that recreates some of Hollywood’s most iconic props.
And they’ve made plenty of Jurassic Park themed collectibles in times past.
But none takes the cake like the one they just made.
In light of the 2018 Jurassic movie being released, Chronicle Collectibles made a life-sized replica of Baby Blue – the raptor that’s meant to be the star of this movie.
And it is being sold for a whopping US$999.
So you know, if you have a bunch of spare cash lying around and space in your home, this might be the collectible for you.
If you’re like me and don’t, we’ll just admire this collectible item from our computer screen.
All in all, the 2018 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is shaping up to be an iconic movie that’s gonna go down in history.
And I for one cannot wait to be a part of it!
Tickets are already on sale, so be sure to get yours ASAP. I already have mine 😉
