Yesterday night, everyone was talking about the “Rui End incident”, and let’s face it: this kind of accident happens pretty regularly, but it became headline because it’s Rui En, who is set to receive her “All Time Favourite Artiste Award” this Sunday. Police investigations are still ongoing, so until the investigations are concluded, these are what is known to the public.

Rui En, in the beginning of this year, has allegedly hit a stationary car and ran away before
According to the Straits Times, someone informed Zaobao that earlier this year, Rui En had hit a car and drove off. The owner posted Rui En’s car plate number on social media to find her, and eventually Rui En contacted the owner to do a private settlement.

What really happened
Basically, Rui En’s BMW entered her HDB car park in high speed (well, we certainly didn’t know she live in an HDB) and knocked down a parked motorbike. The impact was so strong that the bike fell and the bumper of the BMW broke off.

The owner of the motorbike saw the entire incident
52-year-old Bahrom Sarmiten saw the accident right before his eyes. The BMW did not stop to check on the damagers—it reversed and moved off instead, leading Mr Sarmiten to chase after the car.

The motorbike is very new
The bike, a $13,000 Bajaj RS200, was bought just three months ago.

The conversation that got everyone talking
When Mr Sarmiten managed to stop the car, Rui En allegedly tried to cover her face and put on a pair of sunglasses before talking to Mr Sarmiten. Her first sentence was this: “Do you know who I am?”

The bike owner thought she is a minister’s daughter
According to the Straits Times, this was what went on in Mr Sarmiten’s mind after Rui En asked whether he knew who she was: “I really didn’t know who she was. But I thought, even if she’s a minister’s daughter, I don’t care.”

Rui En offered $2,000 to settle it privately, but the owner requested $6,000 instead
When Mr Sarmiten rejected her initial offer of $2,000, Rui En allegedly said, “I’m giving you $2,000 and it’s not enough? It’s cash, you know?” When the request for $6,000 occurred, Rui En got someone on the phone to speak to Mr Sarmiten. It is unknown what they said over the phone.

Rui En has no intention to run away
According to her manager, as she lives there, she did not intend to just run away. Instead, she was trying to park the car first so as not to congest the traffic in the car park. Hmmm…won’t it be dangerous to move when your car has just hit something?

The owner was pissed off at Rui En’s attitude and therefore did not take the offer
He claimed that if she had spoken more humbly, he might have accepted the offer.

It is still unknown whether Rui En was drink-driving
Well, she smelled of alcohol, was given a breathalyser test and was taken away by the police, but she claimed to have just drink one glass of alcohol. So far, there has been no confirmation of drink-driving—yet.
