10 fond memories all 90s kids have about Queensway Shopping Centre they’ll remember forever

Queensway Shopping Centre (QSC) is considered quite a historical mall here in Queenstown. First opened in 1976, it is still standing strong today with a total number of 150 retail and food joints.

The mall may be small but every 90s kid has definitely hung out at this nostalgic mall at least twice a week! Here’s why:

McDonalds
One of the oldest but still operating stalls in QSC is the McDonalds located on the second floor. Lunchtime is usually seen packed with students and working adults, ready to get their hands on some fries.

Adidas bottles
Back in my school days, almost every kid owned an Adidas bottle where we’ll proudly bring to school, casually squeezing the bottle while spraying the water into our mouth.

Queensway Shopping Centre sold just about every colour of the bottles, attracting us to save up and spend more. Talk about following the trends and acting cool eh?

Katong Laksa
Almost a routine after school, students can be seen gathering in groups, making their way to the small food stall located in the middle of the shopping mall.

Other than the multiple shops selling sports apparels, the food there is one of the most memorable memories of QSC.

Tailors
At an age where we were all growing up, QSC soon became a place where we went when we need to tailor our uniforms.

Some badass classmates of ours would head there to get their school skirts tailored above the knees and school pants into  “skinny” pants as well.

Photocopy and binding services
Another reason why we frequent QSC so much is to photocopy or bind our books. The aunties working on the highest floor is sometimes seen flustered either by the huge and noisy clique that we brought there or the amount of papers we have to photocopy from each other.

Getting lost
Designed in a shape like an octagon, we often got lost and felt like we were in a maze. This also meant finding new stores to check out every time, though.

Friendship bands
Back in school, nothing sealed a friendship more than having matching friendship bands with your besties.

Students were often seen taking their time, choosing from the vast selection of colourful threaded bands.

Class T-shirts
Like the friendship bands, nothing made a class more united than getting class t-shirts. Meetings were arranged after school or during recess where the chairman and vice chairman made us vote for colours, letters and type of material for the awesome class t-shirt.

Sports Apparels
Also known as the Singapore Sports Mall, Queensway Shopping mall is renowned for the many sports items that they provide for sale. Whenever one of our friends need to buy sports shoes, QSC was always the place to find affordable footwear.

Otah Otah
Often seen with his temporary pop-up store, the otah uncle is often seen fanning his otah outside the shopping mall. The smell travels and usually made our mouth water leading us to give in and buy pieces of otah to share among friends.

What are your memories of Queensway Shopping Centre?
