Hipster cafes are the hottest trend on a foodie’s list right now, with plenty of them springing up in almost all nooks and crannies of the Klang Valley. Their claim to fame is usually good artisanal coffee and very original brunch dishes, desserts or baked goods.

It’s not easy to come up with a must-visit list, so we’ve picked the ones that are quirky and offer that unique edge that can’t be found anywhere else:

Antipodean Café

Located in a busy corner of Bangsar, Antipodean is usually very busy , even in the mornings as they are well known for their hearty breakfast and brunch offerings that are western in origin, as well as their awesome  coffee.

Offering a quiet, rustic getaway amidst the bustling city of KL, Feeka is famous for its coffee (which have won awards), as well as a creative selection of western and local brunch meals. For non-coffee drinkers, there are also cold press juices and teas.

Colourful and a popular hangout for hipsters in the area, KulCats Barrio is known for its hearty main meals and very generous portions. None of that classy pretentious vibes here, just good old down to earth Malaysian favourites when it comes to western food. If you want a no holds barred dining experience, you’ll definitely find that here.

Podgy and the Banker

Tucked away in a hidden corner on Jalan Gasing, it is rather challenging to locate is this offbeat café that has an extremely cozy vibe to it. If you come here, go for their Bonjour! Egg wrap or I am from Italy sandwiches, as well  as their smoked salmon or Nutella banana bagel.

The food at this family run café in Bangsar Village II has been given the thumbs up by everyone who visits, from the young to the old. Nutmeg Café’s food, coffee and dessert are infused with passion in every sip and bite, and you can actually feel the effort being put into every portion.

Although not technically in KL, this café in Subang SS15 is the epitome of naughtiness. Yes, you read correctly. Even the name itself is suggestive, what more if you pasta and have a look at their menu. A piece of advice, try to arrive before 7pm as their kitchen closes early, and you can only have coffee and cakes after that.

Whimsical Gelateria and Caffe

If you thought that ice creams came only in a limited amount of flavours, Whimsical (by the founders of the famous ice cream outlet Cielo Dolci) will prove you wrong. In fact, they will even incorporate a scoop of beef bacon ice cream into your big breakfast. You have to order their Cotton candy affogato too, and discover the surprise beneath!

If you are a pork lover, you mustn’t miss the chance to pig out (pun intended) at Three Little Pigs in Bangsar, where they put pork in your pasta and in your burgers. They even serve a large cut of bbq pork ribs glistening in its own juices.
