Yep. The big 3-O is a pretty scary age to be at. A lot of shit goes down once you hit those numbers. There are even some who freak out at the thought and keep telling themselves they’re 27 when in fact, they’re already 30, (I see you).
What makes it scary is not only the fear of spotting new wrinkle lines on your face and a few strands of white hair on your head but also the expectations you have for yourself once you reach 30. It includes these 10 milestones you should have hit by 30 years old.
Living Independently
Turning 30 and still living with your parents in something frowned upon in our society today. If you’re still relying on your parents to take care of you at this age, you have some serious man-child/ woman-child issues you need to settle.
Buy A House
Or rent a place of your own. Having a place to call your own is a crucial milestone you should achieve by the time you are 30. It doesn’t only indicate that you are capable of living independently but also shows that you’re able to take on bigger responsibilities in life.
Have Insurance
Not having health, life and or personal insurance by the time you reach 30 years old is a huge mistake. You have to know that life is unpredictable and you never know when an emergency can occur. Having an insurance doesn’t only mean security for you but in the long run, it also makes a worthy investment.
Stopped Your Bad Habits
Yep. By 30, you better have cut down on most if not all of your bad habits. This includes smoking, eating junk food, over-doing it with alcohol, not exercising etc. Remember, you’re not getting any younger so taking care of yourself and your health should be a priority.
Can Afford To Buy A New Car
So you’ve had your old, beat-up second hand car since you first got your driver’s license. Now, it’s time that you are finally able to get yourself a new car that’s comfortable and perfectly functioning. All the savings you have kept aside for it will be worth it.
Travelled A Lot
Like they say, travel while you are young and able! Keep telling that you will do it ‘one of these days’ is a very dangerous phrase which means ‘never’. Don’t wait until you’ve settled down with a family especially. Travelling before you turn 30 is the most ideal time of your life to see the world!
Financially Stable And Independent
Yes. All those years of hard work at the bottom of the career ladder with tears, sweat and blood should amount to something by the time you turn 30. If you’re still struggling to achieve financial stability and independence at 30, it means that you are doing something wrong.
Have A Personal Emergency Fund
Besides having insurance for the rainy days, having a personal emergency fund set up is just as important. Savings is very important. You never know when a crisis will creep up on you. Also, it’s advisable to set up one if you want to have a comfortable retirement.
Stopped Looking For Approval Or Validation From Others
By the time you are 30, it’s only natural that you finally stopped looking for approval or validation from someone else be it your parents, your spouse, your boss, your friend or anyone for that matter. You had your whole 20’s to learn about yourself so by the time you turn 30, no one should be telling you how to live your life or what is best for you but yourself.
Went On At Least One Spontaneous Trip
Besides travelling, in general, you need to have at least had one spontaneous trip be it by yourself or with friends. Go out and have an adventure- Don’t think too much about it and don’t plan! Whether it’s a road trip or a 30 minute flight, just go out and do it! Trust me, it will be one of the memories you’ll cherish most until you’re old and grey.
