As much as we don’t like to subject ourselves to peer pressure when it comes to trying out new hair trends, it’s really difficult to say no. These days, we are exposed to so many different hair styles and colours that are often too alluring to forgo – and also because they look so gorgeous on celebrities that we want to look just like them.
We empty our pockets, pick out the color we want and then we stop and think. Is this colour going to be life-changing? What if the color doesn’t suit my face shape? Am I going to have trouble finding clothes to match my hair?
Yeah, along with these 10 other thoughts we often have!
1. The colour stains everything, like EVERY. SINGLE. THING.
If you have dyed your hair with colours like red or brown, your bathroom will look very much like a crime scene when you shower. But the good thing is, it’s not going to last more than 3 days, so just avoid wearing white or light-coloured clothing and you will be just fine!
2. Does it mean that I cannot wash my hair for the next 2 days?
We all have the misconception that washing our hair after dying will cause the colour to fade. As much as this is true, it only happens when you wash your hair like 2 or 3 times a day. Otherwise, just chill.
Nothing is going to happen for the next 1.5 weeks before it starts to fade. If not, you can also get colour protecting shampoos to aid your paranoia.
3. Green, or Pastel or both?
Should I go for Kylie Jenner’s green hair? Or should I opt for something more unicorn-ish and pretty like Xia Xue? Heck, maybe I should just go rainbow.
4. Should I spend half my paycheck to get someone to dye it? Or should I just DIY?
There are so many DIY hair dying starter packs, we don’t know if we should save the money and just dye it on our own.
Our recommendation? Please get someone to do it to get rid of the uneven hair colours or weird looking dip dyes because they can look really awkward.
5. I need to make sure the brows match
it just looks weird when your hair is dyed ash brown and your eyebrows remain jet black, so make sure your stylist knows and helps you with that weird dye job.
6. The colour you see isn’t the colour you get
That often happenswhen we choose DIY over going to a legit hair salon to get our hair dyed. because the
From someone who’ve had similar experiences, trust me when I say that the colour on hair dye boxes can sometimes very VERY deceptive. Your “mahogany brown” can turn out to look like a horrid
Your “mahogany brown” can turn out to look like a horrid ah lian red.
7. I love pastel hair but I don’t want to look like an Asian unicorn
Let’s just be honest here. Not everyone can pull off unicorn hair like Xia Xue because it just might not suit your skin tone.
Therefore, it’s always best if you seek an expert’s advice who knows what suit you best before delving into such an unconventional colour!
8. Does it mean I have to spend more money on hair products now?
Yes and no. You only need to find 1 really good colour protecting or hair protecting shampoo to make the colour last or keep your hair from becoming frizzy.
Yes, just one good one is enough.
9. All the Q&As I’ve to answer after dying my hair
Especially if it was an impromptu decision to dye your hair. You will first face all the judgment from your family, and then all the haters who feel that your previous hair colour suit you better.
Bottom-line is, haters gonna hate. If you love your hair colour, everyone else will just have to accept it. Period.
10. Your reflection will give you a heart attack after the transformation
You know the instance when you go “Holy crap?!” when you stare into the mirror after dying your hair because the colour turned out to look really, really weird?
Therefore, to combat this problem, I will always choose to go to a hair salon that I trust so that I can get the best advice on what colour suits me and what doesn’t.
