Okay, let’s all admit this: we’re all watching Descendants of The Sun, and it has nothing to do with the K-wave. It’s just a show that everyone is watching, and you’re so outdated if you haven’t watched it yet—but why, out of so many Korea dramas, does this stand out? If you haven’t watched it, here’s why. If you’ve watched it, you won’t need to know why, because it’s just that good.
It’s Song Joong-ki’s comeback drama after his NS
It’s just so apt that he’s playing a soldier when he has just completed his NS. Most people remember him as one of the members in Running Man—the flower boy who has got the looks, the brains and the talents. Everyone just want to see how much he has improve, and he didn’t disappoint.
Lee Kwang-soo cameo-ed in the drama
Still on the topic of Running Man…who doesn’t like our beloved betrayer, Lee Kwang-soo?

It’s one of the few military-based Korea drama
You won’t get to see much contemporary military-based South Korea dramas, so this is one of the firsts. And with male Singaporeans having been in the military before, it sure makes it more watchable.
The song. Yes, the theme song
Korea often have the best songs, and this has the best-est song.

It’s different from other Korean dramas
Most Korean dramas are filmed when the drama is being aired, with the script unfinished so as to make changes based on audience’s feedback and rating. However, Descendants of The Sun is filmed in its entirety, that means the ending can’t be changed. I don’t know about you, but that seems to be better!
Those action scenes
It’s almost like Hollywood, minus the loud explosions and loud screaming. Perfect for watching in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping.
It’s an idol drama with a deep theme
Idol dramas usually tap on the star power of the actors and actresses, and while Descendants of The Sun does that as well, it has a story that is deep and thought-provoking as well. I’m not going to spoil anything, but all you need to know is that it’s not just a typical love story!
The beauty of the setting
Part of the filming is done in Greece, the country with the longest history. How cool can that be?
Lots and lots of eye candies
A picture speaks a thousand words.
The brotherhood is strong
If you’ve been to the army, you’ll know the power of brotherhood. And you’ll get to see the brotherhood between Song Joong Ki and Jin Goo—somewhat like Song Joong Ki and Lee Kwang-soo?
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
