Zootopia was released in Singapore’s cinemas on 25th February and I grabbed the chance to watch the movie. I’ve always been a fan of watching cartoon movies, and let me say this, they’re not just for kids! Zootopia is like your office politics, really, just that they’re animals. But Zootopia just depicts the issues in life that we face so well, every adult should watch it! We have Judy Hopps, the bunny police officer who faces trouble at making her mark in a male-dominated job. (Why are the predators in the story mostly, if not all, males?) Then we also have Nick Wilde, the fox that everybody is afraid of because well, he’s a fox. Zootopia is worth not only your money but your time. It teaches you that:
Anyone can make a difference
As small as a bunny that she is, Judy Hopps braved society’s stigmas and stereotypes and became the the first bunny in the police force. Although her superior didn’t trust her, she went on to make her mark. Some goes for Nick, who was more righteous than any fox could be.
Be nice even if people are afraid of you
Clawhauser may be a predator and all, but he’s really a softie at heart. Just like the soft center of donuts.
People do manipulate and lie
Manipulation and lies are always present in every age. I’m pretty many adults have experienced this in the office. You know, that one person who’s always cleaning the boss’ boots…
Patience is key
This scene was the most hilarious, annoying and cringe-worthy. Really, everybody needs to learn how to be patient if they want something really badly.
Being there for each other
Because this movie teaches you about friendship. It teaches you that you may become friends with the most unexpected person ever, but that shouldn’t stop you from being a true friend and learning to understand each other.
Discrimination is dangerous
It always is. The predator versus prey discrimination in Zootopia is just like the racial and gender discrimination issues that we face in real life. It caused chaos in Zootopia; and it can do the same in Singapore.
Making the right choices in life
Sometimes, as a leader you’re going to have to make certain choices and sacrifices. But that’s what your job asks of you and you just gotta give it what you got.
Being righteous prevails
Corny, yes, but it’s true!!! Truth and justice will prevail someday, as long as you stay on the right side of law and morals.
Innocence may be a facade
Who ever thought that Assistant Mayor Bellwether was the evil one? (Well I did.) But Zootopia teaches you that even the most innocent, sweet-looking person in the world, isn’t so innocent after all. In fact, that person may be your worst nightmare.
Love
What’s a story without love? Love is joy and happiness. Love is necessary for a happy life, and a happy environment. Love also teaches you how to discover your strengths and weaknesses. Watch Zootopia and you will learn to love more.
