Dyeing our hair is a good way to give ourselves a fresh, new look, but look out for the below reasons before getting your next box of hair dye. This list might save you from some problems and money.
It is not long lasting
Box dyes (dyes that come in boxes) contain chemicals different from those at the salon. Chemically, they are not designed to last, because if they do salons wouldn’t offer dyeing services. Box dyes do not last – face it, if you have tried, you’ll know!
It damages your scalp
Especially if you have dermatological reactions and skin allergies, hair dyes contain chemicals that are very damaging to your scalp – Formaldehyde, the same chemicals used to preserve dead bodies, is a hardcore preservative, and a proven cancer-causing ingredient found in these types of dyes.
It is unprofessional
It comes in a box. Come on, for professionalism, go to the salon! If you don’t know how to apply it, it is best to leave it to the expert.
It stains
When you dye you hair at home, make sure you are clear of any furniture. If your dye touches them, you’re not just dyeing your hair, you’ll be staining everything else. To solve this, salons may be better.
Good price may translate to bad quality
True, boxed hair dyes are insanely cheap compared to a trip to the salon, but the type of colour, its damage, and the hassle to dye you hair may mean a bad time in general.
Limited dyeing styles
The gradient effect is in vogue right now, but with box hair dyes, you can’t even get 2 shades.
Unpredictable results
For those dyeing your hair by yourselves, your eyes don’t grow at the back of your head, so make sure you have mirrors readily available. Good luck, your colour may be uneven.
One size does not fit all
The type of hair dye may be long lasting for thinner hair, but Asian hairs are proven to be thicker in circumference. Even though you may have gotten the “higher-end” better brands, it might not work.
DRY HAIR
All those chemicals in your hair, your hair might get frizzy and breaks easily. Dry hair is a definite.
What you see is not what you get
Colours are very unpredictable on dark Asian hairs. So be careful of those samples you see in stores!
