10 shits we used to do to our school uniform in the 90s

“You think you come to school to hold a fashion show ah?” Don’t we all hear that each time we violate the school rule because our uniform was modified? It’s a constant battle between teachers and students and nobody really wins in the end. That’s why many people look forward to going to polytechnics, you can ditch the uniforms. But before that, we tried our best to alter our uniforms.

Taper pants
Boys oh boys. Do you still remember the number of times that the DM caught you and made you buy new pants? I bet you lost count.

Fold skirt
People still do it now. I mean seriously, knee-length skirts look so ugly and unflattering. Every girl will want to show off a little bit of skin up her thighs. We don’t see why not.

Alter skirt
Instead of folding, some are brave enough to just alter their skirt to a shorter length. It’s pretty hip and cool, until you walk up the stairs and someone yells that they can see your polka dot undies.

Fold socks
Who has time for high socks? They’re so last century. Ankle socks are more flattering, at least we don’t look like nerds. Even though it is school that we are going to.

Vandalise name tag
I think kids seem to have a fetish for vandalising almost everything. Some of us love putting stickers on our name tags, it’s cute. And we get stickers from good friends as signs of approval. It sucks that we have to peel them off each time we get caught.

Fold sleeves
Raffles Girls had blouses with folded sleeves, and it seemed pretty cool to do the same. As though folded sleeves will make us any smarter.

Unbutton top two buttons
Especially when it gets really hot. Sunny sunny weather doesn’t go well with uniforms ever. Unbuttoning the top two buttons of our blouses let us feel cooler while at the same time make the well-endowed girls a lot hotter.

Tuck it out
Try to tuck it out at all cost, cos it’s cooler. It gives you a messy haggard look which many girls deemed as cool. Seems like good girls really have a thing for bad boys.

Wear PE attire underneath
Other than the fact that it gets really crazy hot, it is also not allowed in some schools. But we can’t help it, we don’t want to be late for PE lessons. We can’t help it either if your lesson is so boring we can’t wait to escape.

Hike up our collars
This was a trend for some reason. I didn’t like it nor did I do the same, but many people did and often got called out for doing it. After all, the MOE wants to raise smart people, not a bunch of Ah Bengs. Meh.
