Office ladies, are you all guilty of wearing high heels? Well think twice as we present to you the effects of high heels on our health!

In-grown toenails
Because our feet slide forward in high heels,it forces our ties into a distorted shape, putting weight on our toes. This also places pressure on our toe nails. If you already have in-grown toe nails, high heels are a huge no-no.

Bad Posture
Increased weight on your toes causes us to lean forward. We consciously make an effort to straighten our backs and lean backwards, overarching our back. This strains the knees, hips, and lower back.

Sciatica
This medical term refers to when nerves become trapped due to the change in position of the spine on the nerves in the back. The causes pain and numbness in your feet.

Shortening of Muscles
Because high heels causes overexertion of our calf muscles, high heels can shorten the muscles in calves and back, leading to pain and occasional muscle spasms.

Shortening of the Achilles Tendon
With our heel always pointing upwards, the shortening of this tendon is caused by frequent tightening of it. Even after continuous wearing of heels, switching to comfortable footwear can be painful as our foot is used to high heels.

Calluses
Calluses are especially evident in women who continuously wear closed toe heels. The weight of our body puts pressure on our feet on the insides of our shoes, and constant rubbing hardens our skin. To avoid this, try to exfoliate your feet!

Dependency
Despite all these ailments, it is shown that many women are reluctant in giving up on heels. This is so even when shoes are causing pain. Once women see themselves better looking in heels, they cannot stop. It’s literally no pain no gain.

Bunions
No not onions, but Bunions, where joints of the bones in our feet juts out. This is cause by regular shifting of weight on our feet, such that they fall unevenly on the joints. This is an effect of long term heel wear.

The cramming of toes
Not only does the cramming of toes causes bunions and in-grown nails, it may also cause nerve damage in the toe due to the high pressure. The next time you put on those peep toe heels, think twice!

Flat feet
Researchers in the UK found that tendons that support the arch of the foot are constantly weakened by heels, and prolonged wearing of high heels could also result in having flat feet.
