Time is precious and it’s always advisable to use it productively. However, you’d be surprised as experts have found that up to 95% of people procrastinate. That’s almost everyone! Some psychologists believe that procrastination is a method by which humans use time constraints to motivate themselves, while others believe it’s a human trait that puts pleasure before difficult work.
Whatever the case, if you have some or even all of the following traits, you’ll know for sure you’re procrastinating, and it’s time to get your act together and not do things at the last minute:
You love to sleep in
Waking up before the sun rises is for other people. You prefer to set the alarm clock until 15 minutes before you leave the house. You never believe in waking up to exercise, and will definitely choose to sleep in during the weekends. You also believe work should only start at 12 in the afternoon, or later.
You give up easily
If a task looks like it will take a long time, you’d rather give up and go take a rest. You always tell yourself you’ll pick it up again when you feel like it, but you end up never ‘feeling like it’.
You’ve given up on making promises
You find yourself unable to fulfil any of the promised deadlines you commit too, and therefore have lost trust in yourself to meet expectations. Hence, you just stop making commitments altogether.
You pick up a habit to distract yourself
Usually if you’re doing something boring, you’ll develop this habit to keep yourself occupied and not get swallowed by the boredom. It can involve munching on chips, biting your nails or tapping the table.
You spend all your time on social media
Rather than accomplishing much in any given hour, you find yourself surfing facebook, scrolling through twitter or browsing through Instagram, which takes up the majority of your time and drains productivity.
Your To-do list is longer than a ten-page essay
Due to all the things you’ve left undone, you find your to do list getting longer and longer by the day, causing you to miss out on certain tasks and breaking promises altogether.
Your friends have stopped trusting you
Due to your frequent need to skip get-togethers in order to complete last minute tasks, you find your friends have been reluctant to call you out or invite you for outings as they totally expect you to back out at the final moments.
You prefer following your feelings when it comes down to work
You prefer to complete the tasks you enjoy and don’t want to tackle tasks you consider repetitive and boring. Of course everyone wants to function like that, but some challenging tasks are necessities and can’t be avoided.
Planning? What’s that?
You’ve never known what it’s like to keep a journal or a planner , whether as a book or an app in your phone, you’re probably procrastination’s best friend as you believe in taking things as they come. Even though you may have already forgotten what these ‘things’ are.
You love the wee hours
Working through the night actually make you happy , and your favourite snacks are coffee and RedBull energy drinks.
