Are you a 90’s kid? Well, you might remember doing these 10 things we often did as a carefree, young student because they’re too damn addictive.
Spinning Erasers
Do you remember those cheap rectangular erasers bearing various national flags of different countries? Well, 90’s kids will remember that. When you were bored in class listening to the teacher droning on and on about stuff, you either start making a spinning eraser, or challenge your friends to a duel with your best spinning eraser. No, it’s not just flipping erasers that are fun.
Catching
Catching was probably the number 1 game of all time. Do you remember the “Twist”? It gives you immunity right before the “Catcher” catches you. Or the “Home”–a location where you are safe and the catcher can’t catch you.
LAN shops
Especially for guys, LAN shops and internet cafes were the number one stop after school. You’ve probably lied to your mother about staying back in school just to have a few hours at the LAN shop playing those stupid multi-player online games with your friends.
Ice and Water
Another primary school game, this variant of catching is also very popular. When the catcher catches you, you “freeze” until someone taps you and “unfreezes” you. Kids can be found planning together on how to rescue you.
Hanging out in malls
The 90’s kid perceives hanging out in malls after school to be absolutely cool. Shopping malls are the favourite haunt of most schooling students. Who can resist the joy of window shopping and just chillin’?
NOT STUDYING
Ask any young adult you if they ever did study for their PSLE, and the answer is mostly a No. Gone were the days of carefree bliss, when all we did bother as children were …. Nothing. This applies to secondary school days too – sometimes, when we get the chance, we just choose to lepak.
Having fun in PE
PE is often the class that EVERYONE looks forward to. It was a break from the monotonous studying, and the fun and games make us happy and sweaty.
Puppy Love
Ah, the puppy love. In our schooling days, we often develop crushes for the opposite sex, especially upon puberty. We shed our primary school dislike for the opposite sex and start embarking on relationships in this period.
Eating unhealthy food
C’mon let’s face it – canteen food really isn’t that nutritious, but we binge on them. Remember mamee? Yup, it’s laden with MSG but as kids sometimes, we can’t help it.
Teasing the opposite sex
In primary school, we often make fun of the opposite sex as we tend to mix within our own gender. Remember how we hated holding girls’ hands. Now you can’t help but hold your girlfriend’s hand all the time.
