10 things you shouldn’t post on the Internet in M’sia, if not you’ll regret for the rest of your life

There’s so many things we’re tempted to post online. Instagram is flooded with pictures of food and travel escapes. Snapchat is filled with ridiculous videos that are tagged with captions that make you think, “What was this person even thinking of?!”

Cyber crimes have also been on a rise. You don’t want to be a victim. There’s too many stalkers that are watching you without you even knowing it.

Here’s a couple of things which you should never post about yourself.

Your Birthday in Full
Your birthday opens you to a world of identity thieves and scammers. This is the one important piece that’s needed to open accounts under your name, and whisk your identity off.

Where You Are
You tweet about being at Universal Studios, Singapore. You’re having a piping hot cup of masala chai at Serangoon. If your options are set to include your exact location, it informs your followers that you’re not at home, and that it’s a good time to strike.

The Pretty Pictures of Your Kids
A parent shares a picture of his 2 year old wearing his glasses. It gets almost 150 likes on Facebook. Are you sure that it’s only your circle of friends that get to view your photos?

You never know when an adorable picture can be seen by the wrong pair of eyes, and cause harm. Take off geotag info and if possible, don’t tag friends in the picture.

The Address of Home Sweet Home
Once again, you don’t know who’s taking a peek at your profile. Don’t make things easy for the baddies by tagging your house add to your posts.

The Actual Contact Number
If someone really needs your number, they can message you for it on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. There’s absolutely no need for your number to be saved on your profiles.

Relationship Levels
Really, there’s no need for random people to know if you’re single, married or in a complicated relationship.

Pictures and Geotags
Having your picture geotagged is like flashing a big neon sign that says, “I’M RIGHT HERE!”. Your phone also might be automatically set to share your location when you’re using certain apps. Remove geotags from your pictures and make life safer for you.

Vacations, Vacations
Never, and I repeat, never, EVER post that you’re going to be away from your home for a week or two while you hop on islands at Boracay, or enjoy the sights of Bali. You’re exposing your personal information to criminals you never knew were in the picture.

Embarrassing Moments
Always take a moment to think if you’re sharing something that your boss wouldn’t approve of. If it is, don’t post it.

Work-Related Information Dos and Donts
A simple post about missing a deadline could affect your company’s reputation in more than one way. Think twice before you post, and you’ll have won half the battle.
