10 Types Of Clothes That Should Be Hung And Not Folded

Folding clothes are such a cumbersome task. You have to get everything down to an art and then store it. It’s also a game of Jenga trying to get your clothes out from the middle without having the rest fall out.

Thank God for hangers. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Did you know that some clothes are just not meant to be folded? Here’re some clues to help you.

Silk Blouses and Shirts

This is a no-brainer. Get a hanger that has a solid grip to hold the silky material. If the shirt has buttons, ensure the topmost button is secured. This will keep annoying creases away from the collar.

Satin Blouses and Skirts

You’ll need to hang these up too, and ensure that they are zipped or buttoned to ensure they don’t slip off of the hanger.

Dresses

Hang your dresses in a vertical manner, unless there’s a lot of heavy work on them.

Jackets and Blazers

A regular-grip hanger will do you good here. A must-hang item.

Overcoats

Heavy overcoats will need a curved hanger to not only support their weight but help the coat keep its shape.

Tuxedos

Duh, this has to be hung. Especially if you want to be sure that you’re going to be able to wear it in the next 5 years or so. It’s best to keep the tuxedo in a cover as it’s one of those items you might use a few times a year at most.

Jumpsuits

Yet another piece to hang in a vertical manner.

Trousers

There’re two ways to hang trousers. You could use hangers that have clips on them to hang trousers up at the waist or the hem. This will keep them in a permanently vertical position in your cupboard. Option 2 involves folding the pants along the crease and draping them over the hanger’s bar.

The choice is yours.

Velvet blouses

Velvet blouses are best maintained on a hanger and in a cover if possible, as they attract lint easily. Pretty much the same way a moth is attracted to fire. In fact, just keep a lint remover on standby!

Traditional wear

Sarees can be hung on the bar of the hanger, while a qipao cheongsam is best maintained while it’s hung vertically. The baju kurung and Punjabi suits, on the other hand, will need a combination of the both – the skirt and pants of them respectively folded on the hanger’s bar, while the tops are hung vertically with top buttons secured.
