With the increasing amount of car accidents in Singapore, we thought it would be essential for every driver to know how every little action can cause a life and death situation. So here are ten worst car accidents in Singapore.
Tampines Fatal Accident
Back in 2013, a cement mixer driver failed to keep look carefully while turning left, colliding into the two brothers who were both cycling across the road. His rear left tyre ran over them, killing them instantly. While the driver was at fault, it serves as a reminder for a cyclist to get off their bicycles before crossing the road.
Yishun Fatal Accident
Similar to the first one, this occurred in Yishun where the cement truck driver ran over, crushing her with its back wheel.
River Valley Road
Just early this year, we witness yet another car accident that led to the death of two people. A car exited the mall’s car park and crashed through a barrier, diving straight into the canal. Two women were in the car – both pronounced dead at the scene.
Man killed on PIE
Two cars, one taxi and one motorcycle were involved in this accident. The motorcyclist was found pinned underneath one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Injured passengers
Involving our Singapore Armed Forces, an SMRT bus got into an accident with the SAF heavy vehicle on 11 Jan 2016. Fortunately, no one was killed and the seven people sustained minor injuries. While it is not the worst accidents, it reminds us that safe driving is extremely important, especially when you’re ferrying around large items.
Mother of two died
One of the more recent accidents to date, a car crash killed a 33-year-old mother who has a family of four. The mother was travelling with her husband and their two sons when they crashed into a tree. It was said that the husband lost control of the car, causing it to skid. The huge impact caused the mother to hit her head on the handbrake, killing her almost instantly.
Rude gestures
Road rage will never lead to anything good, which is why every driving centre preaches about being patient and always giving way. They don’t do that just because it’s their job, but to maintain the safety of people. A great example would be this. Swerving dangerously from lane to lane in order to harass a motorcyclist, he held up both his middle fingers and braked. This forced the driver behind him to brake in a short span as well, followed by the one behind. Unable to stop in time, a motorcyclist crashed into a lorry with an impact that broke his bike into two and was found dead under the lorry.
Speeding vehicle
Don’t drink and drive. Don’t speed. There’s a reason for all these constant reminders. A grey van was caught speeding and ended up colliding with a motorcycle and sports car. The impact caused the sports car to crash into a traffic light. Prevention is always better than cure. Speeding will eventually result in a car accident, so always drive safely.
Ferrari Accident
One of the most famous accident to date, which spurred the hearts and peaked the interests of most Singaporeans was the Ferrari crash in 2012. This accident claimed the lives on three people, where a Ferrari crashed into a taxi after running a red light. This caused the taxi to hit a motorcycle passing by and was one of the most highly talked about accidents of all time.
Multi-storey car park crashed five stationery cars
Not that speeding on the road is bad enough, but this Honda decided to up his game and speed down the ramp at a multi-storey car park. Not surprisingly, the driver lost control and crashed into five stationary cars. Drivers, you might just want to reconsider the best location to park your car.
