Our COVID-19 daily case count is steadily falling, and so are the number of new clusters.
With some of the tougher restrictions eased, we can now hang out with more people and dine out as well.
But sadly, when you have a large number of cases, a small proportion are always at risk of succumbing to the disease.
69YO Singaporean Man Dies From COVID-19 Complications
A 69-year-old Singaporean man passed away due to COVID-19 complications yesterday (11 Aug), becoming the country’s 43rd coronavirus fatality.
The man had a history of stroke, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidaemia, which occurs when there’s a high level of cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood.
The man first developed symptoms on 28 Jul, and was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital a day later where he tested positive for COVID-19.
The man was not vaccinated against COVID-19. He’s become the sixth coronavirus fatality in August.
61 Locally Transmitted Cases
A total of 63 new infections were reported yesterday, 61 of which were locally transmitted.
Of the 61, 17 were unlinked. Another three are above the age of 70 and unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, putting them at risk of serious illness.
The two imported cases were both detected upon their arrival in Singapore.
Three New Clusters; One Linked to Pre-School
Three new COVID-19 clusters were detected yesterday, one of which formed at Superland pre-school.
Located at Kreta Ayer Community Centre, the cluster now has four cases.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) provided no further specifics on the other two clusters, which were both linked to individual cases.
One cluster has three cases and the other has six.
508 Cases in Hospital; 8 in ICU
At the moment, 508 cases are warded in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
35 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and eight are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Seven of these 43 cases are fully vaccinated.
36 of them are patients above 60 who have fallen very ill; 29 of them are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
Vaccination Progress: 72%
As our daily case count goes down, our vaccination rate slowly but surely continues to increase.
Now, 72% of our population has been fully vaccinated under our national vaccination programme, while 81% has received at least one dose.
Additionally, 138,879 doses of other vaccines listed in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing have been administered, covering 82,406 people.
