We’ve all watched romantic movies, read love stories, and even heard real-life encounters of ever-lasting love and hope that one day, we will, too, find ‘The One’ that we want to spend the rest of our lives together with.

Many of us probably feel that it would be so much easier if we could just know who we’re going to end up marrying so that we don’t have to go through all that heartbreaks in between.

Of course, real-life doesn’t always work like that and all those heartbreaks are taken as lessons as they lead you one step closer to your soulmate.

While some may believe that you don’t need a soulmate to live, we all know that humans are social beings who prefer to be with someone than to feel lonely.

So if you’re currently with a partner, one of the most common questions you would probably ask after you’ve been together for a while would be, is this person ‘The One’? Am I really happy being with this person for the rest of my life?

How would you know then? Well, here are 11 signs that you can look out for to know that your partner is indeed ‘The One’.

1. You Get That Feeling

Every time you look at your partner, you’ll get that feeling. I’m sure you know the feeling that I’m talking about. The butterfly, jittery feeling that you get that just makes you gush every time you see them.

It’s the same one that you probably got when you went on your very first date with them. And no matter how long you’ve been together, somehow, they never stop making you feel this way.

2. You Include Each Other In All Of Your Future Plans

Whether it’s a long term plan or a short term one, you’ll find yourself envisioning the future that both of you will have together. You’ll plan a big trip that you’ll take together the following year, or you’ll talk about the kind of house you would like to live in. You’ll talk about your finances and how both of you are going to contribute towards saving for a house.

You’ll plan out when you’re going to get married and how many kids you’re going to have. For some reason, you’ll never be able to envision a future without them in it.

3. You’ll Never Run Out Of Things To Say

There will probably never be a time where you’ll look at your partner and think, “damn, this is awkward as heck. I need to think of something to say.”

The conversations tend to flow naturally and you’ll always have something to talk about or to laugh about. You’ll have inside jokes that you’ll throw into your regular conversations and you’ll laugh about them together while everyone else stares at the both of you in bewilderment.

4. Even So, The Silences Are Never Uncomfortable

You can sit with each other and not say a word and just enjoy the silence. You won’t question why your partner isn’t talking to you or feel like you have the obligation to come up with something to talk about. Sometimes, all you need is some silence, and that’s okay.

It’s a nice feeling just sitting with each other and spending time together whilst doing your own things. It’s a kind of common understanding that both of you have.

5. You’ll Take Care Of Each Other

It takes two hands to clap, and you’ll notice that you’re not the only one putting in an effort. Both of you put in equal effort and along the way of your relationship, you’ve learned how to compromise.

When you’re down with a fever, your partner will probably stay in and accompany you, even if it means not getting to spend much time talking to you because you’ll be asleep most of the time. They won’t hesitate to take care of you and get you whatever you need. They’ll bring you to the doctor and even make sure you take your medication on time so that you’ll get better soon.

Likewise, when they’re having one of the worst hangovers ever, you’ll still be there to tuck them into bed and kiss them. You’ll gladly care for them because when it comes to them, it’s never a chore.

6. You Can Be Vulnerable In Front Of Each Other

When you’re down or you just need someone to rant to, they’ll be there to listen to your troubles. They won’t be annoyed that you’re complaining about the same thing once again. They’ll offer you a shoulder to cry on and you won’t ever have to feel ashamed of doing so in front of them.

You can share your deepest secrets with them and trust that they’ll keep it safe.

They’ll hold you close and protect you whenever you’re afraid and will always be there for you.

7. You’ll Never Have Any Reason To Doubt Each Other

You’ll trust each other because both of you have never had a reason to doubt the other. There’s a mutual understanding that both of you know your boundaries and will never cross them.

When your partner is going out with their friends, you wouldn’t instantly fly into a state of panic and think that they’re definitely going to cheat on you. Likewise, they will probably also have no issues with you going out and having fun with your friends.

You fully commit yourself to your partner and both of you have the mutual respect to not cheat.

Even when you’re feeling insecure, they’ll compliment you and tell you all the reasons why you shouldn’t even need to feel that way.

8. You’ll Accept Each Other

You might think you’re a really weird person, but your partner will never let you feel like that. In fact, they’ll join in so that you won’t ever be the only person who is weird in the room.

You’ll both end up having fun in your own world because you understand and somehow just connect with each other that way.

You’re comfortable challenging each other into doing strange things like popping out a weird dance move in the middle of the shopping mall while maintaining eye contact with someone because you know that your partner will never judge you even if others might.

9. They’ll Want To Be With You As Much As You Want To Be With Them

In other relationships, there’s probably a time where you’ll feel like you’re the one who is always asking them out on dates. It’ll feel like somehow, you’re the only one who looks forward to seeing them again.

If your partner is ‘The One’, you’ll notice that they’ll want to spend as much time with you as you want to with them. No matter how busy they are, they’ll always find time for you, because to them, you are a priority.

They’ll never make you feel neglected or ignored, and will always have time to pamper you with love.

10. You’re Contented With Each Other

Some people say that if you’re not happy in a relationship, it means that you’re in the wrong relationship. Being in a healthy relationship shouldn’t be one that always makes you feel angry because of the arguments you have or sad because of the things that your partner doesn’t do.

A healthy relationship is one where you’re contented with each other, where you’ll help each other to grow to become better people. No matter what you do, you’ll know that you’ll have their support, and you’ll give them yours too.

You’ll be there for each other and you’ll always feel like you have your partner to rely on when things get tough. You’ll never question ‘what if’ or think about the possibility of meeting someone better because, for you, your partner is enough.

11. You’ll Love Each Other Unconditionally

The love you have with this partner will be different. They will show you what true love is like. They won’t just tell you how much they love you but they will communicate that love through their actions too.

They won’t be making empty promises to you and they’ll love you no matter what your imperfections are. To them, your imperfections are what makes you perfect, and as cheesy as that sounds, it’s true.

Even when the times get tough or when quarrels are inevitable, they’ll still make it a point to let you know that the arguments that you guys have don’t mean that they’ll love you any less.

They’ll stay true to you and love you because they can’t bear to live without you.

Sometimes, it’s not just about the signs. It’s just a gut feeling that your partner is the one that you’re looking for. So trust your gut, and if you’ve found the one you’re going to marry, congratulations! And if you haven’t, don’t lose hope because they’re out there somewhere!
