You know it’s Chinese New Year when everywhere you go, it’s an absolute ghost town. Stores are closed and everywhere you turn you see a random auntie dressed in red. (No, I’m not talking about a ghost la.)

Yes, that includes grocery stores too.

Thankfully, NTUC FairPrice has announced that more of its supermarket chains will remain open on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Thank god. Now you can rush down to NTUC FairPrice just in case you forgot to buy your steamboat ingredients.

God forbid your mom forgets to buy one of those auspicious cheesy hot dogs.

A total of 114 out of 148 FairPrice outlets will remain open on 25 January, an increase compared to in 2019 when 110 stores stayed open on the first day of Chinese New Year.

“This is the highest number of stores FairPrice has kept open on the first day of Chinese New Year,” NTUC FairPrice announced.

Opening Hours

Do note that not all stores will have the same opening hours.

According to CNA, 82 of the stores will stay open until 5pm, while 25 outlets will operate around the clock and eight stores will open between 7am until store closing.

On 24 January, 123 stores will stay open until 5pm on 24 January, the eve of Chinese New Year, while the Changi Airport Terminal 3 Outlet will remain 24-hours, as per its usual operating hours.

On the second day of Chinese New Year, 26 January, all FairPrice stores except Macpherson Mall outlet will open as per usual. The Macpherson Mall store will reopen on the third day of Chinese New Year.

Those who have yet to stock up on groceries and other essentials, don’t fret because from 15 January, operating hours at over 50 FairPrice stores will be extended.

And for those who think that you can just sit at home and shake leg because you can get your groceries delivered via FairPrice Online, listen up.

Deliveries for FairPrice Online will be limited to between 8am and 6pm from 24 January to 26 January. Normal delivery hours will resume on 27 January.
