In terms of the number of new COVID-19 daily, yesterday is a rather goody day, but we “cheated” a little lah because fewer tests were done as a laboratory was recalibrating its apparatus for one of the test kits which had caused some false positive.
So everyone’s looking at today’s results.
And it’s remained stable.
Today, 884 cases were reported.
This means we now have a total of 24,671 cases.
Out of today’s cases, 3 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs. Yesterday, this figure was 2, both of which are linked to a cluster in a dormitory.
The majority of the cases are work permit holders residing in dormitories.
On average, based on yesterday’s numbers, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 9 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 8 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 5 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 3 per day in the past week.
And if you’ve been out to dabao food today, you’d have also noticed that there might be a little more people in public.
No, it’s not because it’s the second day since McDonald’s opens its doors.
Because today is 12 May 2020, the day when a few more restrictions were lifted.
More Restrictions Lifted Today
We’re still in the Circuit Breaker period, but selected businesses can be open today.
This includes home-based businesses, food manufacturing and selected food retail outlets, laundry services, barbers and pet supplies.
Which explains why you’re seeing long queues at barbers today.
Come next Tuesday, some students would be able to return to schools in small groups for lessons, especially for graduating cohorts and those that require school facilities for coursework. This would also include Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) like universities, polys or ITEs. Students would be kept in small groups within their cohorts, and safe-distancing measures will still apply.
Of course, we don’t deny that there’s a chance that McDonald’s opening might have contributed a little to the crowd in public transport today lah. And if you’re ordering any food from the Golden Arches, do order early: yesterday, the last order was supposed to be at 8:30pm but they changed it to 7pm instead due to high demand.
I bet my boss’ car that it’d be the same today.
