Since the coronavirus emerged, most of the unfortunate COVID-19 patients who have succumbed to the virus have been in older age groups.
This is why the authorities have urged seniors to get vaccinated as soon as possible, as they’re more vulnerable to the disease.
But, as we’ve seen in the past, anyone can be susceptible to severe disease when infected with COVID-19, especially if unvaccinated.
14 COVID-19 Fatalities Reported, Including Unvaccinated 35YO
14 COVID-19 more cases have passed away from complications, including a 35-year-old patient.
The fatalities were aged between 35 and 102 and had various underlying medical conditions.
The 35-year-old was not vaccinated and had multiple comorbidities, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH). No further details were provided.
3,099 New COVID-19 Cases
3,099 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (12 Nov), an increase of 703 from the previous day’s tally.
The cases comprise 2,965 infections in the community, 128 in migrant worker dormitories, and six imported infections.
Among the local cases are 479 seniors above 60.
MOH Closely Monitoring 4 Large Clusters
MOH is closely monitoring five large clusters with new cases, the largest of which is at the Institute of Mental Health (MOH) with 412 infections. 385 patients and 27 staff members have been infected there.
Three cases each were added to the clusters at NTUC Health Nursing Home in Geylang East and at Surya Home, taking both their respective totals to 23.
22 residents have been infected at the NTUC nursing home, compared to 20 residents at Surya Home.
The last cluster is at Safari House Preschool in Toa Payoh. With two new cases, it now has 11 infections in total, comprising nine students and two staff members.
1,616 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 106 in ICU
At the moment, there are 1,616 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
280 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 106 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 31 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 75 who are critically ill and intubated.
Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 5.4 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.8 and 47.6 respectively.
Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.9 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.4 and 9.3 respectively.
Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 86% have received at least one dose. 19% have received their booster shots.
Weekly Infection Growth Rate Climbs Above 1
Our weekly infection growth rate has jumped to 1.04 as of yesterday, up from the 0.87 reported on Thursday (11 Nov).
This refers to the ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before.
The last time the weekly infection growth rate was above 1.0 was on 2 Nov.
