On 10 Sep, a whopping 573 COVID-19 cases were reported by the authorities.

This seemed in keeping with Finance Minister Lawrence Wong’s estimation that we’ll soon have 1,000 cases daily.

However, in the following two days, new cases have decreased.

New large clusters are still being detected, however. Here are the details:

517 Locally Transmitted Cases; 454 From the Community

517 locally transmitted cases were recorded yesterday (12 Sep), 454 of whom were from the community.

Of these, 137 are seniors above the age of 60.

Three imported cases were also detected, one detected upon arrival and two who developed the illness during their quarantine.

Employees, residents, and clients of aged care facilities will also be tested more frequently with antigen rapid tests.

The move was prompted by the discovery of 42 COVID-19 cases in 18 aged care facilities in the past two weeks.

Since these residents are elderly, they’re more at risk of severe illness from the virus.

“This temporary suspension of visitation will give us time to encourage more unvaccinated seniors to get vaccinated, and roll out the vaccine booster programme for residents of aged care facilities,” MOH said.

As previously announced, residents of aged care facilities will also be invited to receive their booster shots from 14 Sep.
