A 12-year-old girl was apprehended after locking herself in a room at Block 348A Yishun Avenue 11 on Sunday, 1 Jun 2025.
Police received a call for assistance at around 3:00PM that afternoon. Officers assessed that the girl might pose a danger to herself.
The Special Operations Command and Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) were activated in response to the incident. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was also deployed to the scene.

SCDF personnel deployed a safety life air pack as a precautionary measure.
Crisis Negotiation Unit Involvement and Legal Action
Police officers managed to gain entry to the room at approximately 4:55PM.
The girl was apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008. Section 7(1) of this Act states it is the duty of police officers to apprehend individuals they believe pose a danger to themselves or others based on suspected mental disorder.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
The Crisis Negotiation Unit is a specialised division within the Singapore Police Force that handles critical situations including hostage incidents, civil disobedience, kidnapping attempts and suicide cases.
The unit operates under the Special Operations Command and comprises police officers and psychologists who serve as secondary appointment holders performing negotiator duties alongside their primary roles.
Previous Similar Incidents and Mental Health Resources
The CNU was deployed in December 2024 to a HDB unit in Hougang when a middle-aged man locked himself inside his unit. Police were engaged in a four-hour standoff and only managed to leave at midnight after eventually securing the safety of residents in the unit.
