Do you have a pet?
No, we prefer to call it a financial burden.
We’re kidding, but it’s a legitimate concern – the cost of caring for a pet in Singapore is sky-high, and honestly, not everyone is able to comfortably afford it.
This is what happened for a particular cat owner in Singapore, who is selling his motorcycle to raise funds for his pet cat’s treatment.
Here’s what exactly happened.
16-year-old cat with unknown mass in bladder
On Thursday (20 Oct), the man, known as Ka Zar on Facebook, sounded out his situation in the Sayang Our Singapore’s Community Cats Facebook group.
In his post, Ka Zar stated that his 16-year-old cat has an unknown mass in its bladder, resulting in the problems with the cat’s urination.
Although the cat is currently on a catheter, the owner is unsure whether he is able to sustain the device financially.
As such, the owner made the decision to sell off his motorcycle in order to raise funds for the potential operation required for his cat.
In the post, he appeals to anyone who would be interested in buying his bike, priced at the purported market value of $12,000.
Apparently, the man had rescued the cat back in 2006, when he was working at Woodlands Checkpoint. Since then, he has been taking care of the cat.
He noted that he was not airing his story and circumstance for donations, but because he genuinely needed to raise funds for his cat’s treatment.

In the comments, the owner further elaborated on the details of the situation, mentioning that a biopsy had yet to be done to determine what exactly is the mass in the cat’s bladder.
According to the vet, the treatment ranges from $3,000 to $5,000.
Thus far, the owner has already spent approximately $2,000 on the catheter.
He’s really breaking the bank for the cat.
Netizens’ reactions
The post received widespread support from netizens, with some netizens even asking the owner for his bank account number so they could send him money.
The owner however, declined these offers, and added that sharing his post will be sufficient.
Some netizens also asked if the owner had sought assistance from Singapore’s cat welfare groups.
The owner responded that he had not – his rationale being that cat welfare groups are dealing with issues much bigger than his. Since this was his own 16-year-old cat, he wanted to deal with the issue on his own.
Truly a heartwarming story – a caring owner taking it upon himself to raise funds for his cat, rather than simply appealing online for donations.
Hopefully, the bike will be sold soon.
