675 COVID-19 Cases Today (13 May); 2 Are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs

Lest you’re not aware, the number of local transmissions has dropped by quite a bit since the beginning of the Circuit Breaker measures, and the authorities acknowledged that yesterday, saying that the measures have “shown promise”.

And judging from today’s number, which is still stable, it seems like all our efforts haven’t been put to waste by some Sovereigns or some people who followed the wrong CB.

Today, there are 675 cases.

This means we now have a total of 25,346 cases in Singapore.

Out of today’s cases, 2 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs. Yesterday, this figure was at 3.

And as usual, due to aggressive testing, a majority of cases today are work permit holders staying in dormitories.

Based on yesterday’s numbers, on average, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 8 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 7 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 4 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 3 per day in the past week.

And because of these promising results, the authorities are planning the next phase (if this continues lah): easing restrictions come 1 June 2020.

Singapore on Track to Ease Restrictions

In a virtual press conference yesterday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said that the Circuit Breaker measures have “shown promise” and Singapore is on track to further ease these restrictions by 1 June 2020.

However, just like what the authorities have said again and again, don’t expect things to go back to pre-COVID-19 days.

Reopening would be done in a “very calibrated, careful way”, and the authorities are also drawing up a roadmap and will take a slow step-by-step approach to reopening Singapore.

In other words, chances of an extension of Circuit Breaker are low—unless some COVID-19 positive Sovereigns go around licking others lah.

If not, we could finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
