There’s a certain sound that old people make that annoys the hell out of kids and teenagers.
“Tut”.
It may not seem like much, but there are a number of phrases and expressions that are implicit in this versatile sound.
Tut – Ah you see, you see what happened now
Tut – His parents probably never taught him manners
Or tut tut – Aiyo, in my day we never used to do such things. Kids these days are so disrespectful towards their elders. Someone needs to instill traditional values into these insolent kids before society descends into a cesspit of sociopathic narcissists who are too busy indulging their own hedonistic desires to take care of the youth and the planet.
Like I said, it’s a powerful sound.
14YO Boy Started a Fight with an Auntie & Uncle For Blocking Way in Clementi Supermarket
That’s why one 14-year-old boy started attacking an auntie in a Clementi supermarket.
According to AsiaOne, the auntie was upset at the boy for blocking her way, and she did the most auntie thing an auntie could do – she tutted at him.
14-year-olds are not exactly known for their rationality and calmness, and this particular one lost his temper when he heard the click of her tongue.
He started hurling Hokkien vulgarities at them, Lianhe Wanbao reported.
This angered the auntie’s daughter, who promptly gave him a slap.
This slap only angered the boy even more and he charged towards the pair and tried to hit them.
Witness stepped in
A man who had witnessed the fight stepped in an attempt to mediate, but the boy turned his attack towards him.
The man continued to shield the women despite being shoved numerous times by repeatedly holding the teen back whenever he pushed forward.
The boy then tried to escape the man, only to be pushed away by yet another male passer-by.
One video showed the teen sitting on the floor with the man squatting next to him until the police arrived.
Before the clip ended, a round of applause was heard, presumably for the man who intervened.
Taken to hospital
Police arrived on the scene soon after the altercation. They said they are looking into a case of causing hurt.
The boy has since been taken to the National University Hospital for treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
How to respond to a tut
Yes, the tut sound is annoying, but that doesn’t mean you can start attacking the tutter like a crazy person.
Here are some ways you could respond to a tut instead.
1) Tut back in an exaggerated and sarcastic manner (only works if you’re under 12)
2) Roll your eyes at the tutter (works great if you’re a teenager)
3) Say “Ok Boomer” in response (works for people of all ages except Boomers)
So, there you have it. There is no reason to start attacking aunties and uncles who tut at you from now on.
